Life-Size Shuttlecraft Help

That must have been the mother of all halloween parties. I'm jealous of the fun you must have had building it. it looked fabulous. What did your neighbours think of it?

Wow, forgot all about this. Maybe one day Bradester will drop in again and see that someone took up his request.

I just got back to work after a week off, so I thought I'd knock this out as a bit of a warm up.

I dont know if it's all that accurate, but it only took about 15 minutes to build and about 30 minutes to texture and render so dont expect too much.

HOLY CRAP! Thanks!!!!!!!
I didn't know anything else was posted as I didn't get an email from the board saying so, and I come here to post about this year's Halloween and I find these AWESOME renders! I shall save them for sure as you are the only person in over a dozen I asked on the net who actually helped with this.

Now I have to ask what program did you use to make them? Can it animate? I have no idea how to do this stuff as I am working on this project for Halloween using all the Shuttlecraft pieces I salvaged:

The neighbors LOVED it. They would bring their friends over to see it and walk through and take pictures. People STILL take pictures of the Mystery Machine and are now stopping by on a regular basis to ask how this year's Halloween project is going and even asking if the shuttle will be back or not.

We had around 3,000 trick-or-treaters / visitors last year and are hoping for the same or more this year as we are going to try and collect canned food for the local shelter place.

Yes, it's animatable... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBNEpODiyT8

It was made in Lightwave in about half an hour, mainly because there's so little detail and it's a box. I like boxes, nice and easy to make. :) I'll knock out an animation of it leaving the shuttlebay for you. I just got a nice shuttlebay set but due to the lighting requirements it will need to be rendered overnight, such is the length of time it takes to make CGI.

If you can supply me with a nice wideshot of your yard with nothing cluttering the foreground and a nice clear area in the middle, I'll even try and do you a shot of it taking off from your yard.

Oh, I nearly forgot. I made the wings folding, so it would fit in the bay better and give it something cool to do as it leaves the bay.

Ooooooo! I didn't sleep at all last night thinking about this stuff. Anything I can do to help with ideas or to assist with in what you are making, just let me know. Here is the only yard picture I have if it works?:

What kind of animations can Lightwave do? Could the shuttle go into warp and stuff? So exciting!!!

Lightwave is the software used to do Babylon-5, Voyager, etc, etc. It's limited only by time and my lack of skill.

Yes, going to warp can be done. The more complex the scene, the more lights and models required, the more time it takes to make and render. The little thing on Youtube took about 5 minutes to set up and then about half an hour to render on a slow, old computer. If I set up the shuttlebay scene you're looking at an hour or more to set everything right and then I'll leave it rendering overnight and during the day till I get back home. Even then it might not be finished, but that will be in 1280x720 HD.

I know people think CGI is easy when you know how, but it's still a time consuming process and I can only do a bit now and again. What I'd like to do is put the model on my website so that anyone can download it and use it in their own pictures and animations, should they so wish.

Well I look forward to anything and everything you are rendering for me. And by all means post that model, just give me a little credit for building the lifesize version :-)

And anyone that makes shuttle animations will be placed into the credits of my video which will also be posted on YouTube, Facebook and Monkey5Studios.com :-)

AND that folding wing idea is AWESOME btw. I was hoping people would take my design and tweak it just like that or add landing gear underneath or the door like you did. I noticed you even have the little round running lights rendered. SO cool.

I didn't want to add too much detail since it was meant to be a replica of your design. If you're giving me free reign I might tart it up a bit and get it cleaned up. I cant render anything tonight, I forgot to copy the image maps as well as the model itself when I left work this evening. I'll tart it up a bit tomorrow and do a warp animation, that doesn't take long and it doesn't matter about the slow PC at work.

The picture of your yard should about do it, I'll see if I can composite it in.

I think as close to mine as possible would be fun, but in all honesty I won't complain about anything that someone donates time towards. I just think it's cool that all this is happening.

Quick test to see if I could blend my CGI shuttle into the scene. I have an animation of the shuttle leaving the Enterprise on the go just now, here's a test I've just rendered of it...

Unfortunately the shuttle jerks a bit, I screwed up a setting in the IK, but I'll get it tweaked.

:techman: :techman: :techman:

Thats so cool how the wings unfold as it get further away from the Enterprise!!! At that scene blend looks pretty darn close to me!
