Lie to Me

I knew the voice sounded familiar. I had to close my eyes to remember where I knew it from - the accent threw me but I got it.

Randy Oglesby (Degra et al) guest starred.

I'm curious, was it House started this trend of the one quirky main character that the ensemble is based around that's pervaded so many shows lately? I guess I'd place House, Psych, Lie to me, Bones, and The Closer in this group.
And Life.

I enjoyed it. I like the main cast of characters. I'm very tired of religious people being portrayed as repressed ignorant social outcasts, but whatever. At least Kellie Williams' character treated them with kindness & respect. I knew the solution wasn't what they were hinting at, but I didn't figure it out until the characters did, which was nice.

So far my favorite character is the guy who always tells the truth. He's going to provide some amusing input, I think.

I just thought I'd check this out, but ended up enjoying it quite a bit. Great lead with Tim Roth. Gotta love these cool/clever types. Cool name too (Dr. Lightman). There was also some good clever humor, especially with the parking bit. I also like that Lightman isn't above the occasional lie or fib himself. What else... Good mix of characters and enough meat to chew on for awhile. I'll stick around.

Tim Roth is awesome and everyone should watch his new show.

I only noticed one change from the DVD premiere versus the televisied premiere - the scene with the daughter. On the Best Buy DVD, the scene was out on a deck in the backyard. In the televisied episode, it was in the daughter's bedroom, felt a lot more claustrophobic. I think they may have recast the role of the daughter, too. That girl looked younger on television than she did on DVD.

And since I don't watch Lost, I can tune in week after week without a problem.

It was decent enough, I suppose. Nothing earth-shattering. I feel like it could be paired well with "Bones".

I enjoyed the pilot. It was really funny when they showed pictures of real people. Unfortunately, it the same time as Lost, so, unless they change the time, that show will be canceled.

It got 2 million more viewers than LOST.

jajaja

Wow.. maybe i shouldnt make predictions.

Don't be so quick to backpeddle. You just might turn out to be right.

In series-premiere news, Fox drama Lie to Me opened with 13.19 million viewers (#2) and a 5.2/13 among adults 18-49 (#1t) from 9-10 p.m. While it was certainly sampled sampled, there are three negative observations to make note of.

1. Retention for Lie to Me out of the second half of lead-in American Idol (Viewers: 26.98 million; A18-49: 10.3/25 at 8:30 p.m.) was only 49 percent in total viewers and 50 percent among adults 18-49.
2. The second half-hour dipped by 3.59 million viewers (14.97 to 11.38 million) and 24 percent among adults 18-49 (5.9/14 to 4.5/11).
3. Non-scripted year-ago occupant Moment of Truth kicked-off with 23.05 million viewers and a 10.2/24 in the demo, based on the final nationals. And that show did not ultimately succeed.

The bottom line: it was a disappointing launch for Lie to Me last night.
With American Frakkin Idol as the lead-in, of course it did well, initially. But expectations for it will also be sky-high and already it's showing signs of not living up to them, particularly in the way people who sampled it just because they were tuned to that channel started to bail when they disliked what they saw.

Any one have the initial numbers that house was pulling out of AI back when it first started?

Are we sure this isn't the long-delayed House spinoff? Because it sure felt like it, not that I'm complaining. (Yes, I know this is by a totally different production/writing staff.)

The plot was a bit "paint by numbers", but the main characters seem decent enough. Hopefully they won't get stuck in a rut and aim to be a little more like House than the mind-numbingly dull CBS procedurals.

This does make me wonder what House would've been like with Hugh Laurie playing a cranky British guy instead of a cranky American guy. :)

How could all the scenes about microexpressions be "paint by numbers?"
People who don't like it obviously have the right not to, but the show simply is not like other shows. I thought people might object that it was too much about its gimmick, that there was too much exposition and too little story. Real people have real microexpressions. How can that be dull?

The writers used the microexpressions to put together a pretty "paint by numbers" story--there was nothing new or different about the crime. Change around some of the evidence and you have another boring CSI or Law and Order plotline. Like House, this show is going to survive based on the strength of its characters.

I believe that the House spinoff is based on the PI character.

All new episode of Lie to Me tonight at 9/8 central on FOX!

'Moral Waiver'
A female soldier accuses a commanding officer of sexual assault; the team investigates a potential athletic bribe.

Was I the only one watchin' this week?

Pretty good episode, I especially like the athlete's story, but the military one was alright, too. I'll keep watchin', even if no one else is...

Oh, and there's an openin' theme/title thing now that opens & closes with Tim Roth's face.

I watched it. I figured out the "look of pain" pretty quick, don't know about anyone else.

I think they've started to move into the real of "character development" with tonight's episode. At least that's how it felt to me. I think we should see some interesting character points pop up in the next two or three eps concerning roth's character and past.

I didn't get the chance to watch the episode until today, but I really enjoyed it. I guessed pretty quickly that the original accusor was lying about the truth, but it was nice to see the process the investigators used to figure it out.

One of my favorite elements in the show is the images they use from the media to support/demonstrate their conclusions about facial expressions & gestures. It's quite fascinating.

The guy who played Sgt. Scott is driving me crazy, because I recognize him, but I can't remember from where. *looks it up* ACK! David Anders! Stark! Adam Monroe! OF COURSE! Man, I'm so frustrated I had to look it up.

It's hard to recognize him with his own accent, isn't it?

Nope. I'm sticking with this show, but I have to tape it and watch it later, sometimes a couple of days later, since Lost is on at the same time.

And it's a great theme/montage. Love it. I watched it twice. Gotta find it on YouTube.

I like that too. I like that we get to learn a little something about real-life public figures.
