Liberals are Anti-American

The Republicans of his time called FDR a socialist. And he's to one who got us through the Great Depression (not to mention WWII).

Now we're facing the greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression. We could use an FDR.

I am very appreciative for FDR's leadership during WW2. And he did alot of good. But FDR was a socialist for his time. And many of his policies are still affecting us today. Namely that giant failure we call Social Security. But FDR didn't get us through the great depression. He may have helped it a little hear and there, but his policies did not bring us out of it. WW2 did that.

Ok fine, he had socialists ideas... he wanted government control in the economy and in private business. Food on every table provided and assured by the government.. good or bad that is socialist...

Going by the rationale that only having some proposals involving government intervention in business makes one a socialist, almost EVERY US president has been a socialist. Bailout ring a bell?

There's a far cry between government regulation and administration of some private businesses and fully-fledged socialism, and I suggest you familiarize yourself with the concept.

Well I don't agree with the bailout... that was socialism too... the government took over part of an industry...

But you are right, my definition was vague. But I trusted you to see my point. ANYWAY, the original point of this was to say that FDR introduced some socialism into this country, beyond regulation and oversight. And for the most part, his policies failed to bring us out of the great depression.

After seven years of hearing this repeated again and again, today I saw students at one of the most liberal campuses in America chanting in unison:
"USA! USA! USA!" Then they sang the star spangled banner.

It is humbling to observe a democracy such as yours at work and to see the amount patriotic spirit that its people have.

Nice post. I entered it with the notion that I was goin to have to get all Mavericky with ya.:techman:

Your definition was vague to the point of making the word irrelevant as a criticism, which has been the problem with all of these accusations of socialism. If you reduce the definition to something that applies to almost every US federal-level politician regardless of political affiliation, then using it to attack one politician in particular who is not significantly different than any other average American politician in that respect becomes entirely pointless and stupid and just used to drum up irrational fears.

There's a difference between giving him credit for bringing an end to the Depression, and saying that he got us through it. (And that's not even getting into how FDR was also criticized in his time for being a warmonger...the war got us out of the Depression...put it all together....)

Well I don't have enough economic info in front of me to agree or disagree on how well he "got us through it."

But yeah there are those people that say that he knew about Pearl Harbor and wanted to go to war. I don't think that is true, but he does earn major props for his leadership during the war.

^Don't get me wrong...I don't buy that conspiracy bullshit that he knew about Pearl Harbor. But it's no secret that he did want to get us involved in the war in Europe, and was looking for an opportunity.

Nearly bankrupt? Embroiled in two wars? Who'd want to change that?
All we need to solve all those problems is another massive tax cut for the rich.

^Agreed. If he had acted during his campaign the way he acted during his concession speech, he would have stood a much better chance.

Yep. I remember saying that election night after the concession. I was thinking, "Where was this John McCain? Where was this gracious, eloquent and thoughtful man?!"

J.

The thing I don't get about a lot of conservatives is that they say FDR's spending didn't get us out of the depression, WWII did. What was WWII but a giant government spending program?
And many of his policies are still affecting us today. Namely that giant failure we call Social Security.
Tell that to the guy or girl with kidney disease who got a kidney transplant paid for by social security because private insurance couldn't cover it.

True, but what the conspiracy nuts fail to realize is that advanced knowledge of an imminent attack would be all the excuse we needed to get involved in the war. It wouldn't have been necessary for the Japanese to actually carry out the attack and cripple us.

Well you hafta understand, Liberals tend not to be in tiny small towns. So they're not from "real america". they're not "real" americans. They're also not patriotic.
Plus they are oppressing Christians. WAR ON XMASSSSS!!!

For the love of God, XMAS comes from the Greek. "X" is a symbol for the word "Christ".

Get it right.

If you were being sarcastic, then you still learned something. :)
