LHC Fires, Destroys Planet in Proto-Black Hole!

You're only assuming the universe wasn't destroyed. It's entirely possible there are worldlines in which the LHC did destroy the universe. We just lucked out--this time.

At allotted points around the "ring", the proton beams cross, smashing into one another with enormous energy.

That sentence made me think. All these millennia, all these technological advances, and the cutting edge of science still consists of smashing things together really hard. The Mythbusters would be proud.

Right, so what have we found out from smashing them together so far? nothing?

That's because it's not really a research tool. It's a secret lizard people weapon that emits mind control beams, controls the climate and gives people swine flu :shifty:

We've found out that the machine works. Given it's history, that's a pretty good start.

As for the rest, have patience. It's a big, complicated machine, and they have to put it through its paces and make sure everything's working properly before they can ramp it all the way up.

Once the CERN hits 88-miles-per-hour, we're going to see some serious shit.

WIih quantum/ temporal mechanics you never now...
Sure the world wasn't destroyed today, but whose to say the experiment is not the cause of our doom sometime in the future. We now it didn't effect the past as were still here to talk about it...

...HEY! Why's my hand kind of fading away?!??

Because the LHC transported you back into the past, which caused you to inadvertently keep your parents from falling in love. You have to make them fall in love or you and your entire family will cease to exist!

Clive... that was the plot of Back to the Future by Robert Zemeckis. What were you really doing?
