LGBTQIA Disco Fam

I'm just a cishet dude, but I'm so happy seeing queer folk represented on DIS. I have a lot of LGBTQIA+ friends and family, and it means the world to me to see that the world of Star Trek has a place for them too.
Yay, thanks for sharing!! ☺️

I’m a bi trans woman and I adore the Stamets-Culber family. Paul and Hugh were already wonderful together and Paul just immediately adopting Adira was adorable. I really loved how quickly he took to being a dad to the point where despite not being able to see or hear Grey was also refusing to talk to him when he refused to show up for Adira. That scene were Hugh was able to see Grey at last was just so beautiful, I hope they can work something out for Grey so he isn’t stuck being a memory or ghost or whatever is going on with him. I can’t wait to see where they take things in the next season. They’ve been such a wonderful addition to the show and for Star Trek in general, I just love all of them.

Yes yes yes to all of the above ☺️☺️☺️

It's great to see these positive stories!

I'm a gay man, and it was actually by watching Discovery that I realized that it's probably a bit more complicated than that. At some point, I was listening to a YouTube video discussing Disco and trans representation, and it clicked into place for me that while people see me as male and I prefer to see myself as male, I've always natively felt...they. I'm not sure what the word is for not feeling like what people perceive you to be but wanting to? Maybe that's nothing at all? In a world without Discovery and its community, I'd probably be confused, but the show has genuinely helped me just say, "Great, OK. I can go with this."

Seems like you’re describing dysphoria.

Gay guy here, and I've gotten a lot out of these characters as well. The initial reveal of Stamets & Culber's relationship stands as one of Disco's best moments for me.

Though it does frustrate me that the big obstacle for both couples had to be ACTUAL DEATH. What I truly want to see is a Trek LGBTQ+ couple with normal relationship problems, like one of them gets possessed by a sexy alien, or transformed by a transporter accident, or abducted on their way to a conference.

Can't wait for Gray to properly become an actual character next season. He played so well off the other cast in the finale.

I highkey agree with this— especially the “actual death” bit. I’m very enthused to see where we go with Gray

Cismale, pansexual, and heteromantic. I didn't have an emotionally supportive family growing up and kept many things to myself. I didn't really know what it was like to have open communication and healthy expressions of love. The Stamets queer family is one of the great new pillars of Star Trek for me. Fantastic use of science fiction to illustrate the strengths and beauty of diversity, and just being your damn self.

I don't know what to call myself these days, but it's been awesome to watch Trek doing such a beautiful job of living up to the IDIC ideal. Not only for myself and my friends: many of the young people I know and love are LGBTQIA.

I adored seeing the actors who play Adira and Grey on Star Trek Day! And Stamets and Culber are terrific role models as parents.

LOL!

The LBTGQ representation seems pretty solid. Wilson Cruz might be the best actor on the series. I don't think Sammets is very compelling individually but he's really good when they show his relationships with Culber / Adira. I also really like the Adira character and would like to see an origin story for them where they explain how she realized they was non-binary.
