LEXX: Hated by many, enjoyed by few

I loved Lexx it was great fun and certainly diferent than anything else on TV and I loved Eva Haberman.

I liked Eva better than Xenia Zoidberg or whatever her name was.

Sci-Fi messed up the show and premiered it out of order. I'd even seen the 4 tele-films and had no idea what was up.

The premise started out interesting but the juvenile sex, gross out and potty humor wore thin. Kai was the most likable character and he was dead...as he reminded everyone every 5 minutes.

His Shadow was more interesting than Prince.

Lexx was different from other sf I'd seen up to then, and I watched it to see what would happen next because it really wasn't very predictable. I liked it more often than I didn't, and I can still summon up the Brunnen G song so it was a more memorable show than some.

I really enjoyed Lexx, it was hit and miss but a great concept and when it got it right, it really got it right.

and they did the musical episode long before buffy.

For anyone who is interested they have episodes of Lexx legally (I think) free on the website Joost, but it only appears to be random episodes.

How important is it to see every episode? I've never seen it before, but after reading this thread I was thinking about checking it out, and I just wanted to know if I will be able to follow it with just the episodes on there.

Loved Lexx, they should be repeating it constantly on sky like they do with stargate, probably not in the afternoons though.

I just checked and it turns out Joost is only missing two episodes, the second (Super Nova) and one from mid season 2 (Stan's Trial).

There are some standalones, but I think it's best to watch it in order - there's a loose story arc running all the way through the whole thing. Season 3 in particular is heavily arc-based.

And season 4 works totally best if you saw season 3 before it, as even though it's thousands of years later, many of the same actors return (though one of the sorry parts is Craig Charles trying to do a Texas accent!  )

And that episode had Soapy Shower Scenes, so there's your silver lining!

:D

I just checked out the first episode, and I liked it. It's defintely a very uniuqe show, but I like strange stuff like this so it is right up my alley. Did they edit anything out when they showed it in the US? Because whenever possible I prefer to see stuff unedited. It probably won't effect wether or not I keep watching, I'm just curious.

Ok, off to watch the second movie.

I thought Hattie Hayridge was pretty good in that episode.

Yes, it was edited in the US though the movies were aired originally on Showtime so those were uncensored. I'm trying to remember, I think Sci-Fi did the blurring thing rather than the actual snipping of the objectionable scenes. They are uncensored on DVD and that may well be what is on joost.

As said before, Season 4 has many callbacks to earlier episodes that are going to be more fun if you have watched the rest but I think much of Season 2 can be watched out of order for the most part though there is a storyline arc that comes to a head in the final episodes of the season.

Each season is rather unique, Season 3 is a sort of dreamy fantasy, Season 4 is a crazy road trip through exaggerated US and global locales.

*tastes*

Hmm, needs more Giggerota.

As Ellen Dubin said to me, "Giggi rocks!"

Named, if I recall, in honor of show writer Lex Gigeroff. Good call...and she got a nice cameo in the opening sequence there for a while, too. ;)

I should be ok, because like I said before they're only missing two eps. Finished the third movie now (the second was one of the missing ones), and I am officially a Lexx fan. So far my favorite characters would probably be 790, and Stan. I just wish they had the second movie, because I'm a big Tim Curry fan.

Lexx was a great show; I have all the episodes on DVD, except for the original movies. Not only was it funny and sexy (and the sex was funny), but it was well written and always honest with its characters; it could often be very touching. The final episode-- especially when they start singing "Yo Way Yo" along with Kai-- was amazing. :bolian:

When does it start getting more into the crazy and sexual stuff, because the first few movies didn't go that far. It is a little strange, but it wasn't as totally nuts as I thought it would be.

Lexx doesn't have alot of sex in it, but they do talk about it alot. However the third season the onne set on the planets of fire and water are out there a bit.
