Levar Burton to be the next host of Jeopardy?

I think at this point maybe it's just time to end Jeopardy. It's had a great run. At this point they are making a complete mockery out of the show. Why did they not just have a hand picked host years ago to replace Trebek??? They ended up waiting until he died. True he wanted to work till the end but still. They should have had someone waiting in the wings.

Which is kind of what I've been saying after the whole Richards fiasco. At the very least, have them take an extended break from it to have them time to recuperate from it and be able to get a better plan in motion. The result would be a rejuvenated show that they could then relaunch at a time when people are not so tired from the controversy. They been rushing headlong into it and stumbling around like an awkward drunk at a dinner table.

That's absurd. People don't need foresight about social media. They just need to be decent, kind people. That's not too fucking hard to ask.

In a world where morality is black and white, sure.

In the real world, morality is difficult, nobody has complete information, ideas are always changing, the line between provocative humor and aggression is ambiguous, everybody’s ideas are constantly in flux and their relationship to socially acceptable ideas even more so.

Can you honestly say nothing you’ve ever believed is considered wrong now? That nothing you consider funny would bother anyone?

You're on the internet: there is no room for nuance here!

Not in the slightest. I do my best to be painfully well aware of my own bigoted tendencies (to the point where, if I am to be referred to by my ethnicity, I prefer it be in the most dysphemistic terms possible), because that is the first step to mastering them, which is, in turn, the first step towards being anti-racist.

As to humor, there are plenty of jokes that I still consider riotously funny, that I don't tell outside of very select company, because I also consider them offensive. So I don't tell them unless I know those around me will recognize both aspects, and will neither take offense nor be encouraged to act on bigoted impulses. Generally, I make my own ancestors the fall-guys, but when I tell an ethnic joke that's an outright slur, I follow Asimov's lead, and make some fictional ethnicity, e.g., Ruritanians, the fall-guys.

The only jokes that have ever permanently ceased to be funny to me are jokes about space shuttle disasters. Including the entirety of Airplane II: The Sequel. They stopped being funny the day the Challenger Seven joined Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee.

And likewise, when I order beef Stroganoff in a restaurant, I rather like to order it as "a herd of self-indulgent cattle." But I only phrase it that way if I can be reasonably certain the individual taking my order will (1) get the joke, and (2) NOT regard it as sexual harrassment.

I had always heard for years late 00s-early 2010s until his downfall that Matt Lauer was pretty much assured the job for when Alex would retire.

AV Club is reporting that Miyam Bialik and Ken Jennings will split hosting duties for the rest of the season. There will be no other guest hosts.

I've never rooted so hard for a show I've never watched (Call Me Kat) to get renewed for another season.

LeVar Burton talked to Trevor Noah on The Daily Show last night and Jeopardy! naturally came up. LeVar says he's no longer interested in hosting but he's still grateful he had the opportunity to guest host. He also said that he's exploring the possibility of creating a new game show surrounding reading. Whether or not this is the same collaboration that Ava DuVernay suggested on Twitter awhile back isn't clear but I wouldn't be surprised.

You can watch the interview on the official site here. It's not on YouTube yet, but based on yesterday's uploads, it'll be up in about six hours. They start talking about Jeopardy! around the four-minute mark but the whole interview is worth watching.

Yeah I saw that. Good for LeVar. After all the shenanigans going on with Jeopardy and the stupid way the producers went with finding a new host after Trebeks death,it's a smart move to stay away from it.
He has gotten more pr the last year than the last decade. He will be getting a new gig soon I think...:D
