Let's talk sandwiches

I love a good sandwich, what is the best sandwich you've ever had. I'll go first:

The restaurant: Avogadro's Number just off the Colorado State University campus in Ft. Collins, Colorado.

The sandwich: The Cremation - cream cheese, freshly made guacamole, lettuce, onions, sprouts, tomato, and cucumber on a crusty french roll.

This sando is awesome, and I ate at least one a week from 1986 - 1990. Whenever I'm back in Ft. Collins I make a point to pick one up. It's not the same as before, the guacamole is prepackaged, but still not bad. I'll occasionally make something similar at home, but I prefer to use bagels instead of the french bread.

For some reason the best sandwiches that I really remember don't have meat in them, but I am a certainly NOT a vegetarian.
The #6 Veggie sandwich at Jimmy John's is really good too.

Reubens are my favorite sandwiches.

Corned beef+saurkraut+thousand island dressing on rye bread=WIN!

I like a roast beef sandwich with roast beef of course on potato bread with creamy horseradish sauce , lettuce, tomato and cheddar cheese.

If I get a roast beef sandwich sub from a shop, I usually have it with everything listed above except on a sub roll and add onions and pickles.

A proper English Westcountry cheddar Ploughman's gets my vote, especially if it's served with bottle of local cider.

It's my belief that the sandwich is mankind's greatest invention.

My absolute favorite sandwich is actually something I came up with a couple years ago after one Thanksgiving, which has become an annual tradition for me. It's basically a Thanksgiving leftovers sandwich. I take warm slices of turkey, some stuffing and a little bit of gravy (both also warm), some cranberry sauce, and put it on wheat bread with mayonnaise. Mmmmm...

I want it to be Thanksgiving now. :(

Cheesesteaks might be the best sandwich ever for me. Voltaco's in Ocean City, NJ has the best I've ever tasted.

A tuna and cheese sub from Dino's in Margate, NJ also hits the spot.

And I could really go for a nice corned beef special, with corned beef, cole slaw, and Russian dressing on rye. I have no idea where to find a really good one of those, but I'm looking.

If I were going to eat only one more sandwich before I died, it would be a reuben. The best I ever had was at the Berghoff in Chicago.
That said, I'm a fan of many types of sandwich. Any one of the following would make me instantly happy (in no particular order):
-- Cuban sandwich. Key West Cafe in St. Louis, of all places, made a great one.
-- Pulled pork (smoked pork butt, NC style). Ate a lot of Prissy Polly's in Kernersville, NC.
-- Tuna melt. Anywhere, really. It's just a tuna melt.
-- Well-made tuna salad. Homemade.
-- BLT with guacamole and red onion. Homemade.
-- Chicago-style Italian beef (dipped, and with peppers). Al's in Chicago.
-- Pastrami on rye from any one of several NY delis.
-- Tenderloin, or Iowa Skinny (pounded thin, breaded, and fried pork tenderloin). Any Maid Rite in Iowa.

My favourite local deli/cafe does some great sandwiches. All sorts of simple but great combos and their bread is really great too (the filling is meaningless if you have crappy bread).

I was once inspired to make myself a triple fried-egg chilli chutney sandwich, after watching the episode of Red Dwarf it's mentioned in. It is indeed pretty damn awesome. You'll die from a grease overdose if you have more than three in one lifetime, however. I think I'm on two now.

You're right, it's important to have the proper beverage to go with the sandwich.

To that end, from my list:
-- reuben = beer.
-- pulled pork = sweet tea.
-- pastrami on rye = cream soda.
-- Chicago Italian = Old Style beer.

No one has posted a sandwich yet that doesn't sound great. Even fried eggs and chili chutney.

Always wanted to try one. It's a state of the art sarnie.

:D

Makes you feel like you're having a baby. :techman:

(you know, the bread actually does dissolve if you wait too long to finish it)

I am very fond of the sandwich. I'm eating a fried egg one right now. I have been known to eat nothing but sandwiches for 3-4 days. Best friend keeps shouting at me for it.

My favourite sandwich was chicken and stuffing with mayo on a stottie from Greggs but they stopped making it :(

I don't think I really have a favourite now. I do like to experiment with fillings sometimes. I once made myself a lettuce, apple and salad cream sandwich which was really good.

Just had an excellent sandwich yesterday from my favorite little restaurant. It was a turkey and cucumber BLT on sourdough. SO. GOOD.

My homemade favorites are grilled PB&J, and cheddar-cucumber-and-mayo on toasted wheat.

I love eating salad sandwiches. One of my favourites is chicken, lettece, tomato, avocado, red capiscum, carrot, a few black olives and a few slices of cheese. With some mayo also. On brown bread too.

Over the last few days been eating two ham, avocado and cheese toasted sandwiches as lunch. Yum.
