Let's talk about the elephant in the room, this series violates Roddenberry's vision big time

What is out there today (other than Orville) that looks or feels anything like classic or TNG era trek? Sure there were a lot of look-a-likes at the time, ranging from Babylon 5 to SeaQuest. However, there's very little on TV today that evokes a sense of wonder or Discovery.

It does to me. It feels like the exploratory kind of Sci-Fi that uses a tried and true style to it, which hearkens back to Sci-Fi of the 1950's.

DSC is using a style different than Trek that's come before, and in some places it really isn't working well with it.

Both are good, and one may evoke more wonder and capture more of your imagination than the other.

At this point, with both series establishing themselves, it's becoming a bit tiresome with this pissing contest. Each will have followers, some will like one more than the other.

Welcome to Trek fandom? What's been amazingly humorous and entertaining for me throughout the "pissing contest" is that I've Seen It All Before. I've had all these arguments before. Multiple times. And some of the arguments, I find myself on the opposite side using the arguments that were used against me in 1986!

Star Trek fandom has not changed one single bit in 50 years, and I find that oddly reassuring.

And that's what you get out of it. For me, I see exploration, adventure and humor thrown in to break up moments of tension to avoid it from becoming too overblown.

DSC, while I find good moments in it, has yet to evoke that sense of wonder and a "What's out there?" feeling in me.

It was thoroughly unimpressive, even ridiculous. The only thing it had going for it was a very slight resemblance to TNG, in visuals alone. In tone, in spirit, in everything else, it was just another lame comedy from the guy who made Ted.

Exactly. It's a cheap copy of a series about wonder. Even the sense of wonder is just a pale facsimile. It's a big scam, frankly, and those who've fallen for it... ooof, I'm sorry for you.

First, you have no idea how old I am, so enough with the "Junior". Even if I likely am younger than you, it's not by much, and I know it was meant as a personal attack, so enough with that.

Discovery is well written, well acted, they are re-imagining and exploring the Klingons, espousing on incredible new technology, exploring cross cultural differences between humans and Vulcans in a different and unique way. They've set up other elements so far to explore that I'm willing to bet are going to be very very interesting, particularly with Stamets.

Frankly I think it's creative and exciting. Just as much Trek as DS9.

You don't have to hate it. But I find DSC to be all of those. I can watch an episode of DSC once and be alright with the single viewing, not needing to go back to it again. The only other Trek series that I did that with was...um, none.

I know many Trekkies who've been fans since the 60s who would say the exact opposite. Here's a cold hard fact for you: you are wrong. In that your opinion is not a fact.

Here's another fact: Star Trek is not about exploring space-- not to everyone. It is different things to different people.
