How effective is that?? Now Sheldon knows that Penny is being sarcastic, so he can respond in an appropriate fashion.

does he have Aspergers? I really need to watch this show someday. That reminds me of me.

No one has officially said Sheldon has Asperger's.

Then again, no one has officially said I have it either, but boy, sometimes I wonder...

Re: Lets talk about .. overcoming communication difficulties over the

Sheldon doesn't 'have' anything in my opinion. He's just a really smart mofo who doesn't give a damn about anything that isn't relevant to his work. Including other people. Which is what I would aspire to, if I had 'work' like his.

Re: Lets talk about .. overcoming communication difficulties over the

I actually wonder sometimes if people get sick of me going on about my ideals.

Nope! :D

No, and please don't change that!

Thanks guys. :alienblush: I know I can go a bit overboard sometimes but I guess it's good to have a variety of perspectives!

Re: Lets talk about .. overcoming communication difficulties over the

Regarding Sheldon having Aspbergers --- he certainly demonstrates a lot of the tell-tale symptoms/proclivities associated with it. Whether or not the writers of the show know this, or are intentionally writing his character to that particular condition is irrelevant at the moment, because it could very well be an accurate assessment of the character.

What I am suggesting is that from now on whenever you are being sarcastic in a post, use this happy fellow

to help your fellow posters along.

No.

That is my idea, if you have any better please do share them.

How about we all own up to a little bit of accountability for ourselves and not be so sensitive about every last thing under the sun?

Beyond the fact that the anonymity of posting here on the internet seems to allow (and in some cases, seemingly requires) people to be curt and sarcastic, whether for humor's sake or just because that's how a particular person communicates), the fact of the matter is labeling a sarcastic post rather defeats the purpose of said sarcastic post. It's like telling a joke, and then spelling out the actual meaning of the joke before anyone has a chance to respond.

And that's just stupid. To top it all off, adding that smiley could very well wind up being whored out the way the  icon is and thus becomes troll bait or simply irritatingly inane.

Example:

HDDVD4EVA: I have been called a "bitch" simply for not giving my seat up to an old man.
Joe Q. Poster: I doubt that was the only reason.

versus:

Foose: That's a nice picture of violins. I used to play, you know. Ten years, before my life began to suck because I don't have a girlfriend or a job.
Walter: Don't care.

So... which is the more effective use of sarcasm?

On a related note, I find it immeasurably unlikely that Sheldon would prefer Saturn 3 to Deep Space Nine.

I mean come ON!

Re: Lets talk about .. overcoming communication difficulties over the

Unless he's a huge Farrah Fawcett fan.

Re: Lets talk about .. overcoming communication difficulties over the

I don't know. I found it rather difficult to believe Sheldon preferred Star Trek V to Star Trek: The Motion Picture, whereas Koothrapali espoused the exact opposite viewpoint. To each their own I suppose.

Re: Lets talk about .. overcoming communication difficulties over the

^ At least he had some sound and logical reasons for doing so though, he was mostly right about the film's failures. I'd like to see him come up with a similar argument for why Saturn 3 is better than DS9

ok I just saw the mini marathon NBC had last night. He seems very Aspergers-like to me, though at an extreme degree, particulary his a-hole-ness. But we'll never know if he's meant to be or not b/c there's no way NBC or the writers will ever disclose if he has it, as that would just be suicide. B/c you know there will be certain folks who will interpret the show as "oh, arent those high functioning autistics weird & funny?!:guffaw:"

anyway I think Im gonna be tuning into this show as I find Sheldon amusing, I also like Leonard's friend, the guy with the "Beatles" haircut.
