Let's See Your Originality For Trek XII

Inspiration:

The Defector
The Chase
The Enterprise Incident
Picard Maneouvre

Movie opens with the Enterprise and other ships in orbit around a new Vulcan colony. Federation fleet ambushed by a Romulan fleet (imagine if they'd shown us the battle of Vulcan). Big battle in space. Federation aircraft carrier, larger than enterprise is dramatically destroyed. Enterprise defeated, left damaged Star Trek II style. But the Romulans aren't interested in the Federation fleet, they beam down, the Romulan Commander kills elder Spock in front of Kirk (who was on the planet) in dramatic fashion, and take Sarek and some other Vulcan elders. They're holders of some sort of important historical secret. This opening serves to establish these Romulans as bad mofos. They warp away.

One Romulan ship is damaged and left for dead. The Enterprise rescues a Vulcan female hostage from among the prisoners. There's some sexual tension between her and Spock, centering around the fact that she's a real Vulcan female, and since the Vulcans are almost extinct, he should leave Uhura, since she's a lowly human. He owes it to the Vulcan race. Drama between Spock and Uhura. From this rescued Vulcan prisoner, Kirk gets some info on what the Romulans were after. Apparently, they are after some sort of ancient super weapon left behind by an alien race, and they need clues from the former planets of this ancient empire to find their ancient capitol. The empire existed before the time of Surak, and the Vulcan elders have retained some ancient knowledge about them, in the same way the Greeks know something about Atlantis, but they don't have all the details. The Enterprise repairs, and the Vulcan girl agrees to help them figure out their next move.

A chase begins a la, TNG the Chase. Kirk is beaten by the Romulans again at the 2nd planet with clues. Turns out that the female Vulcan prisoner is actually a Romulan (half Vulcan, half Romulan) double agent! The Romulans are waiting and beat the Enterprise again. Her "rescue" aboard a derelict Romulan ship was staged so that she could steal some information from the Enterprise computers about what the Romulans are really after. The ancient civilization's territory extended over both Federation and Romulan territory. The whole 2nd planet thing was staged to provide her a means of escaping to a Romulan ship. She kidnaps Spock when she gets away.

But Kirk and Spock, smart mofos that they are, knew that she was a double agent, and allowed her to escape. And even though the Romulan ship cloaks as it escapes from the 2nd battle, Kirk knows that Spock will send a signal to allow the Enterprise to track them. They were ready, and the Enterprise was only playing dead.

Meanwhile, Spock is hostage aboard the Romulan ship. There is some sexual chemistry between this Romulan Commander and spock a la 'the enterprise incident'. His fidelity to Uhura is tested. This girl is mean. Think like Juliet when we are first introduced on Juliet on LOST. She can be nice one minute, and then beat the crap out of Spock the next if he is uncooperative.

The Romulans go to the real they were looking for in the Neutral Zone. Spock, the Romulan girl double agent, and her superior go down to the planet in a shuttle. It's one of those planets where transporters don't work.

The Enterprise arrives while they are on the surface. This time the Enterprise does the ambushing, fights a pitched battle against the Romulans but beats them by inventing the Picard maneuver before Picard does and wins, but it won't matter if the Romulans get their hands on the ancient super weapon from the extinct species. Kirk takes a shuttle down to the planet with McCoy & maybe some others.

There's some hand to hand combat, Kirk vs the main bad dude, amongst some alien ruins in a dramatic alien landscape. While they're fighting, they discover the secret . . .

The ancient civilization, ancient empire the never went extinct, they had simply moved on to the next phase of evolution and had moved so beyond empire and had such infinite, omnipotent knowledge, that they were above this puny conflict between the Federation and the Romulans. As Spock says in Star Trek I, "possibly a next step in our evolution." They impose something like the Organian Peace treaty on the Federation and the Romulans, at least within their system and send everyone on their way.

Movie ends on a positive note like TNG the chase, where the 2 commanders talk to each other and say "one day"

Best fan fic I've ever read ...

I was being facetious when I posted the stuff about a "Borg Queen" villain. (Or was I?) :vulcan:

Seriously, since we're talking about "original" ideas, why would some fans prefer to go back and do some rehashed ideas (e.g., Khan or Sybok redux, TOS episodes, etc.)? Even Gene Roddenberry, when he created TNG in 1980s, said he didn't want main characters that had already been done in the original series (i.e., a Spock retread or a copycat of McCoy).

The new Star Trek premise works because at least it hadn't been done before (a quasi-prequel of sorts).

If people are getting tired of the "Badass Villain with a Mission" archetype, there are certainly other possibilities. Romulans (or some other alien threat) would work if done right, and familiarity is definitely an advantage. Some random new alien race (e.g., the Son'a) has already been done without much success.

I have to say I like the idea of a "corrupt leader" type of antagonist (e.g., high-ranking Federation leader, wanting to declare war on a civilization or take over the Alpha Quadrant).

However the writers/producers of this new franchise decide to continue, they should never lose sight of the really important thematic elements of Star Trek: humanity and culture, scientific exploration, and technological advancement.

War of Pacification

Problem: Invading force, more advanced technologically than the Federation, with the means to attack the Federation, Klingons, Romulans, Gorn, and a couple others simultaneously, does so in the name of "galactic peace".

Antagonist: Interstellar Concordium, a confederation of several species like the Federation with a majority stake held by a reptilian race called the Meskeen.

Plot (movie 1): ISC invades, convinced the Romulans to stay out of it, takes the Klingons down so they fight for their survival, stresses the Federation fleet to the brink of surrender. We're introduced to the Hydrans, a 3-armed, 3-legged, 3-eyed, 3-sexed species from the other side of Klingon space. They encounter the Enterprise as she does battle with an ISC scout. Kirk and Co. and the Hydrans present the Federation council and Starfleet Command a plan to bring down the ISC.

Sub-plot (movie 1): Uhura intercepts a message from an unknown source that we're led to believe relates to the war, but she needs Scotty and Chekov's help to decipher the message.

Movie 1 ends with Uhura, Scotty, and Chekov deciphering the message just as the Hydrans encounter it firsthand: mass brainwashing at the hands of the ISC. Enterprise gets the go-ahead to accompany the Hydran force to ISC space.

Plot (movie 2): Federation extends an olive branch to the Klingons, stating, "Together we can both prevail against this threat." The Klingons are given the greenlight to pursue ISC throughout Federation space as Klingon space is largely overrun by ISC. Federation forces take the same liberty. Relations between the Federation and Klingons is better than it ever has been. Enter James T. Kirk, aboard the Hydran flagship in an environment suit, where the Concordian Expedition recievs word that a Klingon fleet will be joining them on their quest to the ISC homeworld.

Subplot (movie 2): Members of the crew start acting strangely, like they don't want to fight, don't care about anything, or just give up on life. When Sulu becomes affected by the depression, Bones looks into what could be causing it and finds strange energy waves throughout the ship. Bones then works with Scotty to find what is causing the depression waves, which turns out to be a cloaked ISC ship shadowing the expeditionary fleet.

The movie ends when Scotty modulates the shields to block the depression waves. The ISC ship has been monitoring the Enterprise using the depression waves and has time to mass a fleet of their own at the ISC border. Closing scene is the fleet battle, where we don't know if the Enterprise survies.

Plot (movie 3): The Enterprise survives the fleet battle, but only just, with the aid of Captains Kor, Koloth, and Kang of the Klingon Black Fleet, the only fleet the Klingon High Council could spare. "If we are to bring victory to Qo'noS, we must stand as equals." The Hydrans, Klingons, and the Enterprise repair each others' battle damage in the midst of the ISC debris field. Repairs completed, the fleet proceeds to the ISC homeworld where, shockingly, there are no other ships! Turns out the ISC fleet is extremely overtaxed in its campaign to pacify the superpowers of the Alpha and Beta quadrants, resulting in a completely undefended home sector. Kirk and the Hydrans must somehow convince Kang, Koloth, and Kor not to lay waste to the entire planet and end the war diplomatically. Kirk being Kirk, however, he won't rule out the Klingon option if the ISC leaders don't listen to reason.

Subplot (movie 3): With the depression among the crew treated and a defense enacted, Scotty, Uhura, Chekov, and Keenser devise a plan to flush out the ISC spy. When they force the spy to decloak, they discover a Romulan ship crewed by ISC. Scotty informs Kirk of the Romulan treachery and Kirk radios Starfleet the situation, citing Enterprise's battle damage and the current mission objectives. Starfleet sends the news of the ISC's sudden withdrawl from Federation space suspiciously soon after the allied fleet victory over the ISC border guard.

Movie and trilogy ends at the ISC capital world, a treaty having been signed, and the Allied fleet leaving orbit for home, with assurances from Kirk that a Federation envoy will be back in a couple months to begin diplomatic relations. Kang challenges Kirk to a "friendly" bat'leth match. fade to black and credits roll while they spar.

Thus ends the War of Pacification trilogy.

I like a lot of things in this. Kirk could do one of his speeches in securing the help of the Hydrans (they sound intresting) and others too. Plenty of action and effects, gambles, changing loyalties. Would introduce a lot of species of the federation as we see them being attacked. i'm not sure if i like to see the crew depressed, but might act like a character catalyst like 'the naked time' did for TOS.

By the way, have we had a thread yet for 'bullet point wish list for ST12'? That could be a useful adjunct to this thread(?), the solution for the next film would be to satisfy all of them (if possible ;)). I might start one if no one else hasn't.

Unfortunately for my idea, the rights for the use of "ISC", "Hydran", and the whole "War of Pacification" have to be obtained from Amarillo Design Bureau, the creators of Starfleet Battles. Quite unfortunate, because last I knew, Paramount and ADB were *quite* at odds with each other over ADB's use of the Star Trek name. Maybe with the reboot, Paramount might change their mind and maybe ADB might allow it, who knows. I do know that the SFB universe is richer and more detailed than Trek Canon and most of the back stories would make good viewing.

*Sniff* I smell the Borg. Just get rid of "technologically advanced" and I'd buy it. And how would you explain the ISC's continuity relative to the 24th Century or previous canon? A big interstellar organization/government would at least be referenced in Federation and Starfleet archives.

How about the red matter used from the jellyfish to destroy Nero (in such large quantity) caused damage to species 8472's dimension of fluidic space and so 8472 start opening quantum singularity's which they keep open and start spewing fluidic space into normal space to "terraform" so to speak our dimension so they can move into it. There will be hundreds of these singularity's opening where we see fluidic space leaking out and species 8472 ships keep using hit and run tactics in and out of fluidic space against all the different races.
This species 8472 will be a lot weaker though, they are after all many years in the past and might not have been advanced in this time period as they were against the Borg in the late 24th century.

not very original I know. ;)

Basically, what will happen is:

Spock dumps Uhura to follow a path of pure logic.
Uhura beds Kirks for reasons of plot.
Spock is miffed. A fight ensues, maybe to the tune of the national anthem of Decapod 10
Uhura and peril do meet
Differences aside, Kirk and Spock rescue damsel
Bones insults Spock's heritage and everyone is happy.

And you can call me Susan if it isn't so.

OK if i'm honest i'm sick of reading how shit Star Trek bad guys are and how boring or 2 dimensional they are and that their motivation for doing evil doesn't make sense etc etc etc

So go on, I wanna see you "create/design" the bad "guy/gal/thing" for Star Trek XII.

I want name(s), Species, reason for being the bad guy, motivation for being the bad guy, what their evil plan is, what tools they'll use and what ship if any they'll use to pull it off. In fact I want that info just for starters, give as much detail as you can as to the plot as well and how you'd defeat this "bad guy" and keep in mind their defeat needs to be original too because i've been reading people complaining about how Nero went out.

If you wanna keep it simple but straight to the point then give your ideas in bullet points.

Let's see just how original Trek fans can be, if you can't come up with anything original I think we should conclude that the film writers and directors can be cut a bit of slack in future ;)

I don't want answers like I wanna see Khan again or I wanna see Klingons etc etc etc like we've been getting in the other threads. I want detailed and original work.
