Let's get drunk!

Any good French beers someone would like to recommend? Obviously, I know of Belgian Beers, so I figure, at a minimum, there are similar beers across the border there. But I really know nothing of them.

I dunno. A good French beer is like a black swan. I know they exist, somewhere, but I've never seen one.

Now, if we re talking French-Canadian beer, I could recommend several.

My knowledge of brews is pretty limited: Sierra Nevada's portfolio, Bud, and Canadian whiskey. I can safely opine that Sierra Nevada's portfolio is better than Bud with respect to flavor.

Oh good, now that I've run out of booze and have gotten cranky that nobody wants to hang out with me, my friend decides he's bored and wants to go out.

Bah, now I need more to drink to get back in a good mood.

Getting drunk is a great way for people to do things that they normally wouldn't do but probably still want to, since sometimes you just can't help or change some things or feelings. Getting drunk bridges the gap and makes you not have to think about those difficult, classic questions, and you can just "be" and "do" instead of "think." This isn't always appropriate, however, but it helps with taking your clothes off. I suggest skipping beer and going straight (or gay, depending on who here is drinking with me) to gin and whiskey.

Coffee is awful (more caffeine---I love the taste of coffee, actually), as are all stimulants. One cup of coffee wrecks my nervous system for a good 24-36 hours and I have no idea why. Janeway and I wouldn't get along too well.

Next time you go drinking, eat some french fries afterward. The grease will line your stomach and absorb slow the absorption of alcohol in to your blood and decrease the intensity of your hangover.

Actually, that's not technically true. What you need to do is eat before you drink. Although all this does is delay alcohol absorption (but, by contrast, food you eat after you start drinking will only affect alcohol you drink after you've eaten). It also doesn't matter if the food is greasy or not (although, when I'm drunk, I have a habit of preferring greasy foods).

However, drinking lots of water does dramatically help since a lot of hangovers are caused by dehydration (caused by your body purging itself of alcohol).

I knew I was mixing it up somewhat ... but still, the french fry trick works pretty well for me.

I know the water trick too -- drink a glass of water for every alcoholic drink you have to water it down. It can be a bit of a drag but it helps space out the evening and your buzz and honestly, it's rather sensible too.

Yes. If I don't drink water before going to sleep, after drinking, I am not only more likely to be hung over, I am likely to develop very painful leg cramps.

Ever had to lurch out of bed in the morning, and walk off cramps in both the front and the back of your thigh? I don't recommend it.

The reason I point it out is I had to take an alcohol education class before I got a driver's license, again during my first year of undergrad, and again in order to be licensed as a waiter in Delaware. So I know all the annoying little facts about alcohol and biology.

My experience has been that everyone has their own cures for hangovers, so what works for one person might not work for another. Certainly, however, eating before you drink is recommended. For me, it'll help keep me sober enough to be able to drink water at the end of the night (otherwise, I might just pass out and regret it in the morning).
