"Lethal Weapon 5" -- They're not too old for this shit (yet)

I'm calling BS on this one. Black declined to write the second movie, because he said he had nothing more to say about these characters. Gibbo has also ruled out returning to the franchise and IIRC Glover also more or less did so.

If they did do a 5th movie, then I'd like to see Black write it, but I don't see it happening.

Looks like Lethal Weapon writer Shane Black has written a spec script for Lethal Weapon 5 and has contacted producer Joel Silver and the two leads, Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, who all seem game.

I think this is not surprising news. First Rocky, then John McClane, Rambo and Indiana Jones...Biggs and Murtaugh were the only options left!

Sigh. Not looking forward to it. Since Mel has gone "Jesus Freak" on us I doubt he'll put his "all" into and insist on changes and restrictions to the content (PG-13 here we come!) and 4 was so crap and sacharine that I don't think any additional entries would be worthy; short of making it a good, hard-core action packed fun like the first two; and to not bog it down with the countless secondary characters picked up along the way. (Yes, including Leo.)

But, I'm still on insulin from 4.

Ugh.

Isn't Rene Russo more or less retired* too?

*past it

In Hollywood terms yes, obviously Mel would need to have a new girlfriend who was about 25 or something  (rolleyes aimed at Hollywood not you by the way! )

It should just be Riggs and Murtaugh and, maybe, a visit to Muraugh's family (since they were in the original.) No Leo, no Rigg's wife (and kids), no Chris Rock. Just Riggs and Murtaugh.

Though, Murtaugh should be well into retirement now. Oh! I know! It's a special-secret super case that "only Murtaugh" can help us with so they pull him out of retirement only for the audiance to discover this case really could've been handled by anyone.

Trekker, yes still bitter about X-Files.

They can't break the trend. They have to bring back Pesci, Russo and Rock. Plus they have to add someone else who will come back for the sixth movie.

Glover has categorised and consistently said that he's not interested. Gibson has pretty much said the same.

Clearly I'm in the minority but I loved the fourth one and think it's the best one of the series. Best action, best comedy, Jet Li as the villain. I'd love to see a fifth one.

If they do I hope to the gods that they keep chris rock's annoying fucking self out of it.
Agreed.

Not only this but apparantly Paramount is talking with Eddie Murphy about Beverly Hills Cop IV.
Still waiting to hear more. At press for Meet Dave this was brought up and Eddie said he had no desire for it. Perhaps after seeing Meet Daves box office reception he'll change his tune.

As for LW:5, I'm open to it like I have been with the other 80's franchises which frankly haven't dissapointed me upon their return the last 2 years.

Too me it caved in too much to the "craze" of the time with martial arts.

So we get a bunch of middle-aged men trying to fight a ninja.

Yeah but at least there was a hint of realism with it taking both of them to take Jet Li's character down rather than Mel just kicking his arse on his own.

The racism in 4 was a bit hard to stomach, especially given the anti-racist slant of 2.

While Glover has repeatedly said he's not interested, Gibson has been far less clear on the subject. Of course, even with one half back, there's no way it would work. Lethal Weapon needs both characters (and, I'd argue, Russo and Pesci).

Ah but they never manage to beat Li at the end of the movie. As I recall he kicks the both of their asses, but then the dock collapses and they're drowning and a rebar goes through Li or something.

Yep.

The Shredder death.

Just glad Mel's going back to acting finally.

He was driving me nuts with all his director/producer crap.

He's a great actor; he convinced us all he was sane for how long? :p
