Saw it last night. Loved it. Those kids were so good in their performances. Eli was effectively dangerous and scary but so lonely and heartbroken at times where you just wanted Oskar to give her a hug. And Oskar. What an adorable kid. The bullies made me angry, mostly because it brought out a streak of violence in Oskar.
I loved Oskar and Eli scenes together on the playground. And how she didn't give off cold fog or wear a coat. And how she was curious about him.
The movie did some neat things with vampire mythology, which is a relieve after Twilight came along and made them fucking sparkle in the sun. I liked that Eli was very animalistic when she needed blood. She smelled foul and looked a mess. Yet she felt so much pain in taking life. That really resonated with me. I also like that she wasn't a wise old immortal, but forever stuck at 12. She couldn't remember how long she's been 12. That was a very sad concept.
Overall, great movie. It's more about the barren, cold landscape of loneliness than it is about creatures of the night. About the power of a hug.
