Lessons to be learned from the Kelvin Universe Films

Really? Interesting. Because for me, both ST09 and DIS are pretty much identical in this regard. I personally don't think ST09 had any more "heart" than DIS.
just for me personally, i find much more emotion in george kirk's or amanda's death scenes than i do in the drawn out, michael nearly-kevorkian-ing saru scene. and michael and saru spent much more time on screen building a relationship with us and each other than either george kirk or amanda did on the big screen. even with the beautiful performances of SMG and doug jones, discovery's writers were trying to force us to feel a certain way. i don't think the filmmakers in the kelvin trilogy ever tried so hard to ram emotions down our throats, cue audience "have feels". those just came naturally.

Yeah, I agree there. The Burnham-Saru scene was weird first and foremost. George and Amanda's death were well executed.
To be honest, they still didn't really resonate with me on an emotional level though, but that might be my personal experience/taste/whatever.

Many of the emotional scenes in Discovery tend to be ‘laid on a little too thick’ for my liking. Occasionally it suits the certain scenes, but on many occasions it’s too heavy, and lacks subtlety.

Star Trek is dead.

I watched the first 30 minute of the first "Kelvin" movie, then left. "Kelvin" universe or not, these were bad clones of the original characters, and I considered the entire thing pointless.

But I'm not sure when Star Trek started to die. I think it was the movie Star Trek: Nemesis, but it may have been when TNG switched to movies, which I felt did not work. The movies seemed to be good TV episodes made into dull movies. I don't know exactly why. A few will disagree, but overall, the box office agrees.

But then, out of ideas, they "reboot" the original Star Trek, as if it were some lame Disney superhero movie made for children and adult children. Tell me, in the reboot, did that gay Spock ever make a fart joke, or talk about masturbating? If not, I'm surprised, because that is what makes billion dollar superhero movies these days.

What did we learn from these movies? Well, in the age of nostalgia, don't screw with beloved characters, and a beloved "universe". I no more wanted to see a reboot of TOS as I would TNG. What the hell is the point?

Maybe it would have sucked less if these new characters showed TOS in the years after the first 5 year mission... I don't know.

Zachary Quinto the actor is gay. Spock the character is not. But then, going by your previous track record of making borderline or overtly bigoted comments (including one a few days ago), I suspect you already knew that and were just looking to push some buttons.

Infraction for trolling. Comments to PM.

I mean, if you couldn’t at least be grabbed by the opening minutes of the 2009 film, yeah, no hope for you.
Indeed. One of the best scenes in Trek history, period. And I'll fight anyone on that one.

Don't get personal, 'K? Especially not for an obvious troll who's likely hoping to provoke that kind of response.

Maybe I shouldn't have made the comment about the gay Spock, but the rest of my post is my opinion, and it's certainly isn't trolling. I genuinely hated that film, and I see it as the beginning of the end. If for no reason than it was a bad rip off of TOS.

That makes me a troll?

They created 4 great series after TOS. Then they did what no Roddenberry had done before. Stole from themselves.

So in your original post you say you've only seen the first half an hour of ST09 and walked out on it?

And you expect to be taken seriously?
