Have you ever served in the military and been on a ship for 7 months with 5000 other men working 18 hour days.........
Believe me being in that kind of environment will cause a man to do almost ANYTHING to take his mind off work and take a break and relax. Since alcohol and sex are off limits that pretty much leaves smoking.
I don't condone it, but I understand it in some cases. I never thought I'd take a puff in my life until I was in the Navy and lived this kind of life. You can't understand it unless you've been there but the stress literally pushes you to the point to where you will do something like start smoking just to keep sane.
Like I said I quit after a few months because of the headaches I got from it, which was one of the best things that's ever happened to me. But I fully understand why guys who would probably never start under normal circumstances take it up in these situations.
