Leonard Nimoy "rushed to the hospital"

Upon second reading I noticed he was taken in last Thursday. I just looked at his Twitter page and he has posted a couple of times in the last 24 hours so hopefully he is well and this was just some type of false alarm or TMZ jumping the gun looking for a big scoop... The odd thing is this story was just posted this afternoon.

Hope I didn't alarm anyone...Be well Leonard!

Peace and Long Life...it cannot possibly be time, yet. But if it is...May Your Journey Be Free Of Incident. You literally touched an entire planet.

Well he's not gone yet so let's hope all turns out well

I don't know if is related to his COPD or not, or how badly it's affected his health in general over the years. All I know is my grandmother, who was a heavy smoker for years, got it and she said she'd never wish it on her worst enemy and she's probably the toughest person I knew and I truly believe it's was that toughness and her fear of hell that kept her from ending it herself.

I just hope whatever happens he doesn't suffer like that.

The good news is he is back posting on Twitter. Hopefully it was just a bad moment and he will recover quickly.

The kicker of it is, he quit smoking decades ago when he was still relatively young, like during Trek's run, which is why there were some photos of Nimoy sucking on a lollipop in costume and makeup as Spock! IIRC, Shatner quit around the same time his dad died (during the filming of "Devil in the Dark"), per Trek Memories. Unless Nimoy picked it up again, and I don't think he did, it is even more tragic that his life has suffered like this even having quit so long ago, hoping to make a healthy go of it. And Nimoy is literally only 4 days older than Shatner! :(

Not to quibble, but it wasn't during Trek's TV run that he quit. It was during the movie era, when he was directing either TSFS or TVH.

In his autobiography, he says that he went up the stairs one day and found himself completely out of breath and decided it was time to kick the habit. His reference to quitting smoking 30 years ago in his tweet about COPD also places it right around the TSFS-TVH time frame.

Ah...okay. I stand corrected. I could have sworn the pops were a substitute for him back during TOS. Maybe it was just a failed attempt at the time back before they had nic-patches and the like.

Either way, it is a sad thing, especially since he did eventually succeed in quitting. :(

I think he quit in the mid to late 80's.....I'm almost sure that there are pictures of him in Star Trek Movie Memories when he's the director discussing something with Shatner or someone else and he has a cigarette in his hand. I think in one pic the caption is something like "Note the un-Vulcan like vice in his left hand"

So even if it was say in 85....that's still 30 years ago.

Not trying to preach but it just goes to show the long term effects heavy smoking can have long after you quit. I knew many guys when I was in the Navy who smoked (I tried it for a few months but it gave me terrible headaches, which were a blessing in disguise, so I didn't even really start. I can't say I blame them for starting because when you're on deployment everything becomes so damn monotonous and repetitive that almost ANYTHING different is a welcome break for even a little while.

But I know of many of my ex shipmates who are having severe health problems in their 40's and 50's most likely due to their smoking and a couple who died probably because of it.

I'm not trying to preach and offend anyone here who smokes and I have vices of my own but the damage smoking can possibly cause down the road is truly horrific. It's not just the fact it can cause health problems that can kill you, but it's how much those health problems can make you suffer before you die.

I know we all gotta go sometime and people can say "Hey look at George Burns he smoked and drank like a fish and lived to be 100 and was pretty spry up to the end." Well there are always exceptions to the rule and George had either great genes and/or luck. But I'm sure for every George Burns there are thousands of others who live in agony due to long term smoking effects.

I understand why people take it up and get hooked, but to me life is hard enough sometimes even when I'm healthy. I don't really want to increase my chances of living in total agony for years before I die. Anything I can do to increase my chance of going quickly is worth it to me.

Yeah I just looked in Star Trek Movie Memories. There's a pic of him on P.167 on on the Enterprise bridge set during TSFS where he's got a cig in his hand. So it must have mid to late 80's when he quit.

Well, he did say he quit 30 years ago, so that consistently puts it around the time of TSFS.

Quitting smoking is a bitch.

I quit myself a year and some months ago, cold turkey. I still get cravings, but at this point, it's like craving a Big Mac or Whopper. I can say "no" and the craving will pass.

Now, I'm trying the gym thing, jogging and eating right.

If there are any smokers out there trying to quit, I'm here for you.
