Leonard Nimoy joins Fringe

Excellent news! I really like this show and think Nimoy is a great pick to play Bell.

I think if you go to fox.com, they actually stream most of their shows for free on there. I caught up with Fringe there before it went on the mid-season break so guess I need to start watching again.

I like this move, but I had thought that they already had an actor in place to play Bell?

If so, he's SOL, kinda like the guy they cast to play Senator Organa in some of the unreleased deleted scenes of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. By the time Star Wars: Attack of the Clones rolled around, he was forced out because they replaced him with a bigger actor, Jimmy Smits.

IIRC, the original Organa was Irish actor Adrian Dunbar (Hear My Song, The Crying Game etc). Perhaps GL felt that having one prominent Irish actor in the cast was enough?!

I like Fringe and am delighted to see that Nimoy is joining the cast. Particularly delighted that he's playing this role, the much-discussed, yet to be seen Bell. Should be a good foil for Walter/ John Noble.

Funny enough, I've been saying for ages that I think Joshua Jackson would have made an excellent Captain Kirk in the new ST movie ...

Great news. I only saw the first 4-5 episodes and was forced out of watching it due to my schedule and 14yr old VCR breaking down. I've not bought a 21st century replacement in the form of a DVR cause I'm unemployed and figured I'd just catch up on DVD this summer.

Nimoy on board only makes me more interested to catch up and likely ensures its continued success.

I hadn't been watching this show, but since I'm a huge fan of Nimoy, I'm going to check out the episodes ASAP. :)

Suprisingly for me, Walter's eccentric character seems to be the most interesting one on the show, with son Peter next.

If you've seen at least the first three episodes for sure, Hulu has episodes 4 on (at the moment).

Very cool. I might have to start watching Fringe again.

Now if JJ could get him to do a guest shot on Lost...

I told some non-trek fans at work about Nimoy and they thought it was a good idea. So hopefully a good spectrum of viewers will like this.

The hell? Is Abrams really so hypnotic that he can get Nimoy out of retirement for movies and now television? Nimoy? The guy who turned down Generations?

Those who bailed on Fringe early, when you catch up you'll be completely shocked by what the rest of us think the main plot is.

There's some big differences between Dollhouse and Fringe.

For starters, the basic premise of Fringe even in the early episodes wasn't completely and utterly absurd. Yes, there's people who get their knickers in a twist over the fantasy science the show revolves around, but the premise itself was sound. Unlike Dollhouse where it doesn't make a lick of sense -- unless you really want to believe people want to pay hundreds of thousands if not millions for a prostitute that's completely and utterly inferior to anything you could get for the same amount of money. Oh, and they're also super-kung fu ninja death squads, too when the all might Plot demands it. Nevermind how stupid that is in and of itself (apparently they can program in muscle memory, program in the latest security and counter-security tactics, and... anything and everything else, too).

Second, Fringe's early stories are genuinely setting the stage for what's to become the real premise of the show. I can't really delve into it without spoiling things, but it's there. As opposed to Dollhouse where the "real" plot has fuck-all to do with programmable prostitution. Nevermind that this "real" plot is almost as stupid as the premise itself.

I think the worst thing about Dollhouse to me, and specifically Whedon himself, is how they tried to force-feed you how "deep" the show really is with all those bullshit people-on-the-street interviews a couple of episodes back. It's just sad when the writer(s) of the show recognize how stupid their own product is that they have to try and convince you so blatantly of how it's not stupid.

He's only during one scene this year, and three episodes next year, and then most likely will be killed off.
