Re: Leonard Nimoy, in Trek 12 or not? (Possible Spoilers, but I doubt
Having Spock Prime in the next film, pandering to Shatner's desire to have Kirk Prime in the next film, even letting frelling Chekov Prime in the next film... all bad, bad ideas in my book. I look at the purpose of Trek XI as a bold new start which required much torch-passing to get where it was going. I look at the purpose of Trek XII and, within the Abramsverse, beyond as a new frontier which no longer requires all that torch-passing or anything of the sort.
Spock Prime can be mentioned in the next film, and if it is to focus at all on rebuilding Vulcan (I would think this would be best served as a subplot leading into the main plot) then perhaps he should be mentioned. But giving him more scenes? As much as I truly, truly love Leonard Nimoy's acting, I agree with the good man that it simply wouldn't be fair.
I don't want to see a trilogy or more of movies that keep smacking us upside the head with Primeverse issues. What the bloody hell is the point of that? I'm glad Nimoy is retired from acting, since it probably lets us avoid that nonsense.
Oh, and yes, he appears to be voice-acting regardless. At least, he still has a few projects on his plate. A Kingdom Hearts title has him credited and that won't be out for several months, I think.
