Leonard Nimoy Has Died

Its rare for a celebrity's death to bring tears to my eyes but Leonard's death has :(

R.I.P, Mr Spock.

He has died on my birthday- In future I will remember him each birthday with a toast.

He left behind a large body of work, some of it great, some utter schlock. I enjoyed it all. I'm grateful for Spock, for Vincent, for In Search Of... , for William Bell on Fringe, for that industrial film about the laserdisc player, for the stupid Bilbo Baggins song, for his re-emergence as Spock in Star Trek 09, that cameo that annoyed so many in STID, for Baffled, for his appearance on Columbo, for his appearances on The Simpsons, for I Am Not Spock, for I Am Spock, for The Lazy Song video, for his Tweets, for his craft, for his sense of humor about it all, for stuff too numerous to list. I liked the movies he directed. I liked his photographs. I liked him. Never be another one like him.

I guess that's it.

Oh, and for making me wonder what the hell LLAP stands for.

LLAP.

When he went home from the hospital, I fooled myself into thinking that he was feeling better. But he knew he was going home to die. It shouldn't be shocking-- he was so sick and frail for a long time-- but it really can't be anything else but shocking. How can there be a world where Leonard Nimoy is dead? His heart and talent brought to life a character who was an inspiration to millions, over the course of generations. He made it cool to be smart. For the overly emotional, he taught logic; for the cold and distant, he nurtured empathy. He had a long and wonderful life-- he lived long and prospered-- but we still feel loss because he gave us so much.

RIP, Leonard Nimoy. :(

Also, he starred in a classic Outer Limits adaptation of an Adam Link story, and he played Paris on Mission: Impossible.

I liked the Bilbo Baggins song...
I love the Bilbo Baggins song. I'm still looking for a higher-res version of that video.

If any of you have MeTV, they are altering a lot of their weekend programming to show episodes in which Nimoy guested. Right now, I'm watching a cameo on Bonanza.

First and foremost, RIP Leonard Nimoy. I cherish the memories of you.

I just read this on Yahoo:

Maybe I'm being too critical but if it was my "dearest friend's"
funeral, I would find a way to attend.

Respectfully, I think you are being too critical. As Spock himself said, "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." Charity is far greater than funeral attendance.

I would have loved to see Shatner at Nimoy's funeral, but I am truly grateful that Shatner put his personal wishes aside and focused on those truly in need. The Red Cross is certainly worthy of Shatner's attention.

RIP Leonard Nimoy.

Yes, you're being too critical, and you're using Nimoy's memory to do it, which is wrong.

Reposting from my comments in TNZ, since apparently everyone is coming out of the woodwork to bring up this petty issue and criticize Shatner.

Not that Shatner has to justify his response to a personal loss to you, but for the sake of argument...

- Shatner will be appearing at a charity ball late in the evening Saturday in Florida. Nimoy's memorial is on Sunday morning in California. Shatner's in good health, but a cross-country red-eye flight is taxing on anyone, much less an 83-year-old man who just lost his friend.

- Nimoy, as a performer himself, would understand the importance of maintaining one's contractual engagements.

- This isn't just some everyday paid gig, it's a charity event. If backing out just meant taking a hit on a paycheck, I'm sure Shatner would have no problem with that. But to also deny the charity event one of their headliners and key moneymakers hurts the people who benefit from the charity as well.

- The charity is the Red Cross, and I'm sure given his chronic health issues that Nimoy would be fine with Shatner staying and raising money for them. It could be argued that that's an even better way to honor his memory than attending the memorial.

- The memorial is supposed to be a fairly low-key mostly family affair, I believe, so Shatner's presence might be a distraction.

- Shatner and Nimoy were very close friends, Nimoy knew how he felt about him, and Shatner has expressed his grief in public for the family, friends, and fans to share in, so what difference does his lack of physical presence at the memorial make?
