Legendary's Godzilla 2 & beyond - News & Rumors

In any event, I'd love for them to work Mothra's Song into the movie, even if just using the melody as Mothra's theme.

I'm slightly fonder of "Mahara Mosura." Although I doubt they'll use either theme. The 2014 film didn't use any of Ifukube's Godzilla themes or marches.

The Monarch Twitter page now shows an image of Mothra, both larval and adult forms, carved on the wall of her temple. The look seems pretty traditional, although it doesn't give us any idea of color scheme, and we can't see her face. The file number # 63061 is apparently a reference to the release date of the original Mothra (June 30, 1961).

Seriously though... Isn't it obvious that they are going to have to build huge robots to combat these massive threats at some point? I smell a GREAT reason to introduce the concept of Jet Jaguar...

Anyone? Hello? This thing on? Sigh... I hate being the only Jet Jaguar fanboy.. LOL...

I really want to see Jet Jaguar. I mean, he was really goofy, but I think they could still make it kind of goofy but in an awesome way in the new movies if they tried.

I don't I've ever seen any of the movies with Jet Jaguar.

Mechagodzilla seems more likely. After all, Jet Jaguar wasn't a giant piloted robot, but an Ultraman ripoff, a human-sized robot superhero who "reprogrammed" himself into a giant somehow when necesssary to fight Megalon. And both the Heisei and Millennium continuities had versions of Mechagodzilla that were piloted mecha.

Anyway, it's worth noting that Legendary Pictures also produces the Pacific Rim movies, and those films establish the existence of interdimensional rifts... So maybe not Jaguar so much as Jaeger?

I don't I ever actually seen any of the movies with Jet Jaguar.

He was only in one film, Godzilla vs. Megalon (which was meant as a JJ solo movie but had a brief Godzilla appearance tacked on to make it more marketable), although he was often featured in the 1997 TV series Godzilla Island and has been used in video games and comics.

There was only one, "Godzilla vs. Megalon". Arguably one of the weakest entries in the franchise, the movie was scripted to showcase Jet Jaguar with the hopes of developing a television series from it, similar in concept to "UltraMan". (Certainly the production values looked more on par with a "budgeted" TV series rather than a motion picture. I've read debated discussions that Godzilla was written into the the story at a later stage simply to attract more viewers. Supposedly, he was not originally part of it.

Even if you haven't seen the movie itself, you've possibly seen a rather (in)famous clip of Godzilla performing a crazy "running drop kick" during which he just kinda' slides upon his tail as his body hangs in a rigid horizontal position, his feet finally slamming into the beetle inspired kaiju. Mystery Science Theater 3000 used to play that shot during its opening credits.

Agreed.. My affinity from JJ comes from that movie being the very first Godzilla movie I saw and the fact that it was in an actual theater in the mid 70s.

I can see a "mechagodzilla" being a more likely combatant against the monsters, but in my own mind, it seems logical that the powers that be would develop some kind of remote controlled "drone" that could stand up against the monsters and that a plot point could be that it develops sentience much like the original JJ...

The Millennium-era Mechagodzilla (nicknamed Kiryu, "Machine Dragon") was remote-controlled. It was airlifted to the battle scene by a pair of aircraft called White Herons, and the operator would pilot Kiryu from aboard one of the Herons while hovering above the battle scene. It was possible to pilot Kiryu from an onboard control station, but this was an emergency backup, not recommended due to the radiation and other hazards of being up close and personal with Godzilla.

Well, at least it's only a week, so things aren't completely falling apart.

Two months and a week. March to May. Essentially from the spring release season to the early summer season. That could be a good sign, if it means they have enough confidence in it to feel it can compete with other summer blockbusters.

Oh, I saw May to May for some reason. If they're moving it from an off time to the summer it does sound like that could be a good sign.

I think it fair to say March hasn't been considered an "off time" on the Hollywood calendar for some time now. Marvel has Captain Marvel and Disney has live action Dumbo in that March 2019. It's been a month Hollywood has been building as the Spring launch pad for some big hits.
Alice in Wonderland
Hunger Games
Cinderella (live action)
Logan
Batman v Superman
Beauty & Beast

....just to name a few off hand. Franky May 2019 could be worse, it'll be caught up in the Avengers 4 finale that while fading will still be an issue. Then you have live action Aladdin and to a lesser extent John Wick chapter 3.

Hell, it may be a wash now that I look at the scenario. Best of luck to it!
