Sea Devils, the penultimate adventure for this Doctor, 19th century pirates and a great big aquatic beastie...

It shouldn't be boring should it? But it was a bit. That's about the worst thing that Doctor Who can be.

The most frustrating thing about Chibnall Who is that many of the premises are really strong, but they fall flat in execution. This should have been 13's Waters of Mars. If they had her acknowledge the fact that she just abandoned Dan for half the story because he didn't follow her exact instructions, had her apologize to Yaz for being so cold and distant, and had her come to the horrifying realization that she keeps letting people die on her behalf then I think it would be so much stronger.

The most damning indictment of Chibnall's era is the "But what if instead of that, this had happened..." So many episodes where you could see an alternate plot that would have worked better (the classic example of course being Resolution "But what if Yaz had been possessed instead of the guest star of the week?")

That one annoyed me the most. Why create a new female cop character when your least developed main character who has nothing else to do in the story could fill the same role?

The character wasn't a cop, she just stole a police car and uniform under the Dalek's influence. She was an archaeologist.

I stand corrected. It shows how forgettable her character was, though.

Decent enough, with some fun images - the 'ghost' boat, predominantly - but lacking substance, with the odd bit of stiff dialogue, and maybe I blinked and missed it, but did the sea monster just disappear with no explanation? The Sea Devils were interesting, but not used to their full potential.
