Spoilers Legacy character announced for SNW

No. Not yet. I was promised a Pike series. I want my Pike series. After Sisko, he was my captain. I’ve always liked the little we got of Pike and love what they did with him in the Kelvin movies and Disco season 2.
I have wanted a Pike series since I was 12. He is my definitive captain. Announcing Kirk feels very short changing Pike and I'm done with it.

‪‪I think they only announced this early because of set photo and video leaks on IG and tiktok making the rounds had beaten them to it.

I’m not a fan of Kirk showing up as early as Season 2, but ‪‪I don’t think this was a calculated ad move to announce this today, ‪‪I think it was PR triage trying to recover from scoopers and randos breaking the news this early.

This is pretty much exactly what I've been hoping to see happen on the series at some point.

I really doubt that Kirk's coming on to replace Pike any earlier than the end of the second year/beginning of the third, if at all.

But there was no goddamn way - or good reason - that they were going to dance around Kirk for the whole run of the show. It would be the eternal Other Shoe hanging over the series.

I like the new Kirk's looks, at least. Exactly right.

I don’t pay a lot of attention to TikTok or IG and the one video on YT I saw speculated this was likely Matt Decker. Were these leaks suggesting it was Kirk or otherwise?

While it’s pretty much the last thing ‪‪I wanted to see on the show (not that ‪‪I didn’t want him on it, just that him appearing at the series’ conclusion could’ve been a nice bookend), ‪‪I appreciate your perspective, and am going to try to adjust my own to along those lines.

‪‪It seems like the best attitude ‪‪I could adopt going into this series.

‪‪I only saw mention of it possibly being Kirk elsewhere, in response to the initial image and video leaks, and they seemed like random guesses or jokes. ‪‪But with the photos out there ‪‪I can see the Paramount+ folks just wanting to try to control the situation. They seem very much to be all about every piece of information coming out regarding these series coming on their terms, ‪‪‪‪i.e. YANKED! trailer-gate.

The only thing I don't like about this is that it's going to set some dumbass writers at stupid clickbait sites like WeGotThisCovered to bleating about how they had this as a "scoop" last year, or something.

Which is like some goober who once whacked off to pictures of Pamela Anderson claiming that he "dated" her.

Hope you're right.

Sure there was a good reason. I am hopeful that Season 1 will demonstrate the show standing on its own rather than falling back in to Trek cliches.

If it's Pike being replaced then I think that's disappointing to happen so quick.
But I think there's something interesting in the idea of Pike and Kirk working together, and if that's merely what's happening, (like those Smallville episodes where Clark would meet the Flash or Green Arrow) then I think that's actually neat. One of the things I liked most about Kelvin timeline was Pike and Kirk's relationship. Over the years I've thought one of the changes to that universe I would have preferred is that the divergence happened just before the events in the present, meaning we'd have gotten a more experienced Commander Kirk working with Captain Pike. Maybe they'll do something like that here, just not with the universe changing events of course.

Given PIke's own recent "try-out" on STD, Kirk's appearance next season may just be testing out the casting and writers' concept for Kirk, reintroducing him as a regular at some later point in the series if the audience response is good.

In fact, that's how we got the entire core cast for SNW.

I don’t think there’s any reason to be concerned until we get more information. At this point, we know that Paul Wesley will join SNW in season two as James Kirk. The bars on his sleeves do suggest he is a Captain though so there is that and the official picture shows him in a command chair. We have no idea how, if he’s a regular, a guest or a recurring character. We have no way of knowing if he will be the Captain of another ship, be visiting Enterprise for an episode or two or for an extended period or if he will be joining the crew, either as crew or in the command structure or leading the ship.

While being preemptively upset at something is a trait of Star Trek fans, I say we buck tradition, enjoy season one and be patient as we wait for more information on what Kirk’s role might be here.

That does feel exceptionally plausible.

‪‪A guest appearance in S02, recurring role in S03, and so on, building his part, and this interpretation of the character, as the series goes, could be the best way to do it.
