Spoilers Legacy character announced for SNW

This better be some joke or flashforward image....but I do like the casting. He kinda looks a bit Shatner and Vic Mignogina mixed.
Wesley is 39. Kirk was an Admiral when he was 39. I'm thinking this is some sort of time travel story or flash forward to the late-2260s, when Kirk commanded the Enterprise that ties back into Pike's story in some way. Perhaps a way to rebuild Pike's body has been discovered and the Enterprise is sent to Talos IV to retrieve him? (The various humaniform robots Kirk kept running into would be perfect for this, though perhaps too reminiscent of what Picard did.) Perhaps some ancient technology was found deep in Talos IV that cures him? I'd be interested in that story.

I absolutely hate that idea, no offense. Why must we always undo what happens to characters? Pike's ending in Trek is very bittersweet. Truly no win. Either he's a prisoner of his body or a prisoner of the Talosians. Not only that, but it unwinds one of the only decent elements that Discovery gave us, Pike knowing and having to deal with his fate.

Those are captain's stripes he is wearing in both the image you linked and the original one from this thread. The breast emblems are different. The one in the original post is the Enterprise arrowhead.

He's wearing the enterprise Delta on that promo pick, where he sits in the captain's chair.

They really don't want to do a Pike show - they want to do another TOS reboot and collect all the legacy characters during the run, aren't they?
The Delta/Arrowhead has been the Fleet wide emblem off and on since Star Trek began.

From what I have learned from the internet is that the answer is "happily ever after." That is the answer to all things. Characters get a nice, and neat and tidy wrap up of their character story where they are happy. No bittersweet, not sadness, no tears. Fictional characters are expected to always have the Elysian Fields ending.
They could be reretconning and making the ship's emblems unique again.
That would be amazing.

I was hoping not to see Kirk until a mirror episode when he killed Pike to assume command. Season two seems much too early for his appearance in the Prime Universe.

The trim of that bridge is also brown instead of red. I don't think it's meant to be the Enterprise bridge, but a redress to represent another ship.

I also think they just slapped the Enterprise delta on him for that publicity photo just for that image to hide his unique badge.

The console trim and the railings are brown instead of red. While that could be a change they did to the Enterprise for Season 2, it would be weird to remove the red.

a part of me wishes that instead of making Discovery part of the prime universe, they should've pulled a Kelvin and created a whole brand new universe, that way they could be free to tell stories without adhering to previous canon. I mean if they did that then Wesley's Kirk would've probably be more welcomed.

Seems like a lot of work for a one-off bridge shot of Kirk.

That's fair. I get where you're coming from. :)

If I were writing that story myself, I'd have it set in the movie (maroon jackets) era. Maybe around 2300. Pike has spent decades on Talos IV, and now he has a second chance to live the life he should have had -- but he's a man out of time and it's effectively an entirely different universe for him. Wait, that's Disco. :)
