Spoilers Legacy character announced for SNW

Given PIke's own recent "try-out" on STD, Kirk's appearance next season may just be testing out the casting and writers' concept for Kirk, reintroducing him as a regular at some later point in the series if the audience response is good.

In fact, that's how we got the entire core cast for SNW.

Hell, if Wesley takes over from Mount at the end of season two, I wouldn't mind. I'm ready for more Kirk-Spock adventures.

And honestly Kirk's appearance was a forgone conclusion. I predicted season two at the soonest based on this production team's pattern with introducing Spock.

"Kirk rose very rapidly through the ranks and received his first command (the equivalent of a destroyer-class spaceship) while still quite young." - The Making of Star Trek, Stephen K. Whitfield & Gene Roddenberry, 1968.

It makes sense Kirk would be a captain already. He's already shown to be the youngest at the time. All other captains in TOS seemed far older (Tracey, Decker).

I imagine he gained a battlefield commission to captain during a crisis. After the crisis, it stuck. Much like Lt. Picard taking command of the Stargazer after the captain died.

And I'd rather Kirk have some command experience before taking command of a Starship Class... those seemed prestigious commands in TOS, spoken in awe and reverence.

He doesn't look charismatic enough. No I haven't seen him in anything else and no I won't watch anything else.

His hair is the wrong colour.

He looks like a stack of books with legs and not the modern Young Kirk that Chris Pine played off of the TOS movie version character.

Doesn't look bisexual enough.

There. I've pre-failed him just like Robert Pattinson was pre-failed as The Batman years ago when that was announced, and as we've seen (well not me, I established above I don't watch non-Star Trek) they were 100% right. Are we really gonna have 2 years of this thread? Maybe we should pin it now.

Because brown eyes are such a vital part of Kirk's character.

They're a vital part of his face.

Yeah, it definitely makes total sense that the guy would've commanded at least one smaller or less prestigious vessel before moving up to one of the best ships in the fleet.

A Disco novel set between seasons 1 and 2 does establish Kirk was on the Farragut at that point. Since the Farragut is Constitution class (at least according to that novel) it had no involvement with the Klingon War.

Which novel is that? do you remember?

I hope they'll retcon Kirk and represent him as a bisexual. Maybe that he have a boyfriend ih SNW period. It would be interesting and great efort for world community of 21. century.

Also I think this is not Enterprise bridge he is on, and delta is just a camoflouge.

Please, no more retconning! Though I'd be very surprised if there isn't already a bisexual character in Strange New Worlds season one.

Would it really be a retcon if Kirk was bisexual on SNW? He hasn't had a male partner on screen but that's just because the opportunity never arose before on screen. It doesn't mean that he couldn't like men as well, unless I'm completely mistaken and it has been explicitly stated that he's just straight (though sexuality is a spectrum after all and he could be more willing to explore in his younger years). I'm not fussed either way though, I just think it would be an... interesting direction to take the character.

The TMP novelization written by the Divine Hand of Gene Roddenberry Himself hinted that Kirk could be bisexual. So if SNW were to establish Kirk were bisexual, it would actually be in line with Gene's Vision.

That's a thing fans care about this week, isn't it?

Alan Dean Foster, but Roddenberry signed off on it, so...

(Also, there was a footnote putting paid to the idea of Kirk/Spock specifically because of Vulcan issues of plak tow/pon farr, with Kirk preferring more room for spontaneity in his relationships. He may have been providing some kind of cover with that line for other people who were involved with Spock and didn't want that being paid undue attention any more than Spock would.)

Exactly. Roddenberry established his creation's pansexuality in the TMP novelization with Kirk stating he had no problem with all the ways of love, but that he had a stronger preference for woman. That infers Kirk had experiences beyond the binary.

And that makes sense. As a pansexual, I too have a preference toward men and trans more than women. But I still enjoy women. I feel Kirk is the same. He prefers women more but enjoys it all.

A pan or bi Kirk would solidify Roddenberry's Vision™.
