Spoilers Legacy character announced for SNW

Boy! It must be really nice to know every answer!! Geez people!!!

Casting James T Kirk for season 2 of SNW does *NOT* mean the show is a flop or bad!! Anson Mount said fans would be thrilled with what was planned for the season 1 finale - how about we watch and THEN see if we really are thrilled?!?!?!

I watched the scene in "The Menagerie" today and referencing Pike, Kirk says, "I met him when he became Fleet Captain". Shortly after he mentions that he took over the Enterprise from him. Before leaving, he calls Pike "Chris". The Commodore even thinks that Pike would make an exception regarding visitors for "these men". Gene Roddenberry even thought Kirk commanded a "destroyer" before getting the Enterprise. Add all that together and it sounds like a TON of wiggle room regarding Pike and Kirk's history and relationship. It also sounds like exactly NONE of that means Anson Mount can't carry a show or is being sidelined for Kirk!!!

I realize the world sucks, but y'know what makes it suck? People who have closed their minds SO tightly that they can't bring themselves to accept that perhaps people are trying to be creative and entertain you!! I've watched Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks, and y'know what? They're not as bad as I've heard!! Are they perfect? No. Do they match the direction I'd have taken? No. Are they Star Trek? YES!!! Let's try not to be SO negative and instead have some fun people!!!!

I heard Pike and Kirk will be in love in this version...

May your example of reflective tranquility take hold with the fandom.

Excellent points.

There's a lot of good Trek out there, even Discovery hit a triple in the gap a couple of times during their run.
There is. And if Strange New Worlds doesn't grab for episode 1 then I'll move on. No sense in wasting time. Haven't with Picard since Episode 1.

Only to people who overreact and blow things way out of proportion.

Jesus Christ, it's been one day. Give them some time and I'm sure more answers will be forthcoming. Or, do the normal fan freak out and jumping to conclusions instead of having a little patience.

Regardless of Kirk's role in this, I am absolutely 100% sure Christopher Pike will continue to play a substantial lead role in the show for a long time. Anson Mount's take on the character is too well-received and had too much build-up on Discovery to have him only play a minor part in this series to pass the baton to Kirk. He will be around whether as captain or fleet captain.

Took a survey, did ya? Well, my bullshit anecdotalometer reading says otherwise.

The photos leaked, so they had to quickly get out in front out it. This was not a planned marketing event. Give them some time and more information will be forthcoming.

Eh. This is a pretty big deal. More websites reported about that Kirk casting than ever reported any news about SNW at all. This is the dominating feature of this show now.

And, anecdotally, the only positive feedback I have heard so far was "my wife loves Vampire Diaries". Whereas I have seen "they blew their load early" pretty much everywhere that news was reported.

While I agree that one shouldn't wait around for three seasons for something to "get good", I think one episode is cutting things a bit short. Especially in the streaming area where it is a small sliver of a larger story.

Here's what I think, early though it might be, but the endless prognostication is the bedrock of fandom, Trek and otherwise. The feedback is such that Mount is left aside after a season. Largely because the push is towards TOS, and creating that atmosphere, which makes sense from a marketing standpoint because Kirk and Spock are the biggest household names for Trek. Even my mom knows them and she hates science fiction with a passion.

That's all they get.
