Left 4 Dead

Companies like Stardock have much better business practices. They can't afford to fuck over their fan base because a huge dip in sales would send them out of business. Valve can afford to be much more pigish about stuff and pull stunts, knowing that people like you will eat it up and fervently defend them. Although I will say that Valve isn't quite as bad as Blizzard. Hopefully they won't sink that low...

I do not need to defend Valve as they have done nothing wrong. The L4D fanbase has not been "fucked over" in any way, shape or form.

They only people who have been "fucked over" are people who always seem to want something for nothing.

Unfortunately Valve has kinda spoiled their customers with tons of DLC and other goodies for their other games. Now if they DON'T offer freebies, people feel cheated.

I still enjoy and play L4D, but not nearly as much as I used to. Frankly its startimg to get old. I'l be picking up L4D2 just because I'm ready for new challenges.

So how long the 'Valve sucks!' crowd thinks is an 'acceptible period of time' is between sequels?

And I still believe they could've avoided a lot of this hostility if they'd simply called it 'L4D: New Orleans' instead of '2'.

You may be right. Bottom line is-they give L4D more support/DLC than a lot of other companies do for their products. They added a bunch of stuff last time and now they are putting in a new campaign. They are also actively pursuing a means to incorporate some part of L4D into L4D2, wether its interplayability(WHEE!) between the two online or dropping the original maps/campaigns in later as DLC is unclear at this point. Both have been mentioned in various interviews. I'm half-tempted to call up a few of their execs and ask. I've got their numbers here at work.

Will L4D2 be longer?

In terms of actual maps, no. However, the Director has more power this time. It can create alternate routes through a chapter each time you play it.

Plus it can vary the crescendo events and finales more.
I heard it could vary some parts of one or two campaigns. I also heard that the Director would balance things better this time around. No more "Oh, your team is getting stomped? Well, we'll just make sure you can't find bombs or health packs" BS.

It's not a mindless game at all. In fact, from a certain point of view, it has more of a mind than any other game out there ;)

Well the Director can be pretty devious at times. Some of the SI teamwork, even on Advanced has been worthy of a Versus game. Like just yesterday, I got smoked and drug back around a corner and there was a Boomer standing right there next to the Smoker. Spewed me AND my rescuer.

Oh, and they've just released screencaps of the 'Dark Carnival' level of L4D2. Man if this doesn't sell people on the game, nothing will.

Okay. Voices. Is anyone else hearing the zombies actually speaking during the game? Could swear I've heard 'Braaains' on ocassion, and females saying 'what a wooorld...' as they die.
Or maybe I'm just imagining it.

^There have been a few people who have said they've heard one infected say "let me in" when the player was behind a safe room door.

Yeah, I've heard a few distorted words here and there. I know one of the females says "Mine!" when she attacks you. She's in the subway car tunnel near the ammo table.

^The zombies are largely random so I wouldn't expect to see a specific one in a specific place.

Question: Is it really hard for most people to blow through L4D in extreme difficulty using only the AI? I like to think I'm pretty good at the game, but the director is just killing me. It seems like I can get through 70% of the levels while taking no damage and then the whole team will get instantly skull fucked by something out of nowhere...

She's not in the subway car all of the time-but I've seen her in the general area of the ammo table several times. She's got a secretary-looking white blouse and black skirt.

The Director does love to pwn players. Death Toll is especially bad, with the road from the railway yard to the house, and from the minigun to the saferoom being particularly tough areas to get through in one piece.

Actually its been awhile since I played solo. The games just too furking creepy to go through alone.

It's expert. It's supposed to be hard. I've only made it through a few maps on Expert and that's playing online. Given the AI's unwillingness to use traps, molotovs, pipe bombs etc it becomes very hard to work with them.

I was just wondering because I can actually get to the point where I can handle the expert difficulty. The problem is the game seems to cheat whenever it senses that I'm making progress. For instance, I managed to get my team to the manhole exiting the sewers on No Mercy, but the AI director then decided it would be a good idea to put a boomer AND a witch directly above the ladder. I moved everyone down and BOOM ... a zillion horde zombies spawn out of nowhere below and kill the whole team.

EDIT

And no, the boomer did not have a chance to vomit on any of us.

The game is not cheating. It's doing what it's programmed to do. On Expert it is supposed to make the game extremely hard. If you are breezing through it then it will continue to make the game harder and harder until it becomes a true challenge.

The game does have a slight problem with spawn points for the zombies that don't make sense (i.e. appearing inside bathrooms with no windows), I admit.

The game has put Witches in front of Safe Room doors and at the top of ladders that I need to climb up for me too.
