What about LED? Does anyone know much about LED TVs?

AVS Forums talk about it. but it's still pretty new if i remember correctly.

Me, I prefer plasmas. No comparison as far as the picture quality for sports, deeper blacks, much better viewing angle. Power consumption doesn't matter to me, but even in that category it's closing the gap. Burn-in is also virtually a thing of the past as well.

CRT. High resolution screens with good colour definition. What more can you ask for?

Up until about 2006 or so, Plasma was the 'best' answer.

Since then the difference is so small that there's no reason to spend more on a plasma any more.

I have an LCD and the viewing angle is great now...looks the same no matter where you are...even at 89 degrees.

LCD. My cousin has a fairly new 46" Samsung LCD screen and it's honestly the best TV I've ever seen. Everything looks absolutely gorgeous on it.

LCD -- simply because that's what DH chose for my birthday.

*shrug*

What's your current opinion?

LCD, plasma's get really hot and need eventual plasma recharges.

This

and also, LCDs are lighter, easier to mount and if you have to move, carry, and and IMO, have the better picture quality, they are more expensive, but worth it

Actually plasmas are more expensive and have better picture quality. I don't think that's up for debate according to the experts.

Plasma sets still have superior picture quality, but if you're buying a set under 50 inches you should go with LCD.

It really depends on what you are looking for. The biggest factor for me was LCD was superior during daylight hours and with light in the room. I cannot watch a screen in a darkened room (extreme headache time) So the superior black levels of a plasma did not factor into the equation. My friend has a plasma and i notice a LOT of glare from light sources and his set is harder to watch in the daytime. My viewing angle is just fine on my LCD and is not a factor.

It really comes down to what kind of environment you are going to use your tv in. If you have a typical living room setup with light streaming in most of the day and you are looking for a TV under 50 inches then i say LCD would be the better choice.

If you have a dedicated room that you can have a large screen and/or watch your screen in darkness then plasma would be the better choice. It is more expensive but has a superior picture and contrast ratio than LCD but that advantage is only noticeable under the right conditions.

LCD.
The image differences are getting close to being negligible and LCDs have one important advantage:
No glossy, highly reflective screen surface.
