Law & Order UK tonight

I see BBCAm is showing Ashes to Ashes starting next month! I wonder why they'd do that, but not the original Life on Mars. Possibly because of the latter's remake?

Apparently Dick Wolf is hoping an American network will pick it up and air it on Saturday nights.
He hopes ITV will go on to make more than the 13 completed episodes.
He also has ambitions to sell the British version back to America for the Saturday night network slot and to have the UK and New York casts team up for a crossover episode.

Where did you learn that? I would think Saturday nights would be ideal, as NBC is always showing L&O reruns then anyway.

They did show Life on Mars, I remember telling a friend when it started.

It was on the BBC News site.

cor blimey guv'ner, just seen the trailer...looks like an episode of the Bill! Nah reckon I'll watch Heroes given the choice.

Probably going to record it and watch tomorrow as it clashes with both Heroes and 24:)

I haven't really watched any of the other L&O shows though:)

The preview does not look good, Bamber's accent is horrendous.

What's wrong with his accent?

He's from London, playing a character in London, after his rather successful stint playing a character with an American accent I'd think he could pull one off from his home town...

London accents can vary quite widely. It doesn't seem to be his natural accent, but I didn't think it was bad.

As for the show, eh, not bad, nothing particularly brilliant either. I'll give it a chance to improve, if I remember to watch it.

Ok, got it. I haven't seen any clips yet, and certainly understand the variety of accents and their implications, I just assumed he'd be using his natural style.

I usually never watch shows like this, but I saw the ad earlier today for it and saw it had Jamie Bamber in it.
Seen as I have a serious man crush on him I flicked it on now and again to see him in action, but never got a glimpse. Seemed to be a lot of Martha Jones but not much Lee Adama

I'm glad you posted this, Deckard. I wouldn't have realized I actually had the chance to see this :D. I went to visit a friend of mine (who's a nuBSG fan like myself), and since you're thread made me realize this was one (plus my friend has a telly), we decided we'd check it out.

Now, it didn't exactly knock me off my feet, but I did like it. I particularly think that Bamber and Walsh are a pretty good team. They really seem to have good chemistry in their scenes. I also like their boss quite a bit.
The whole prosecution bit fell a bit flat for me, however. I'm not sure how much I like the prosecutors at this point. But then I've usually tended to prefer the cops on L&O anyway.

I think it's great to get away from the American cities for a change. London's a terrific setting for a show like this, I think. And I felt that like most of L&O, this was certainly watchable.

As I said, I really enjoyed the pairing of Bamber and Walsh, and they're probably the main reason I'll be likely to tune in again.

The first half mostly focused on the police (aka Bamber and Walsh), second half mostly on the lawyers.

The musical sting at the start of every scene is already bugging me.
You don't like the "doink-doink"? :(
No, it really started to annoy me by half way through the episode, although they did stop using it by the end of the episode.

Which is pretty much how the original Law & Order - first half cops/second the lawyers. Iirc it was originally intended that it could fit in a half hour time slow

Guess you can tell those who've never seen the original :)

Yeah, I've never seen a full episode of any of the Law & Order shows. But I knew enough about the format to expect the half and half thing.

Apollo and Martha Jones in the same show? That's just cool. I hope BBC America does get it. (In part because, in the weeks since I got digital cable, BBCA has had nothing on that I've wanted to watch except for some reruns of Tennant's latest Who season. I'd been expecting all sorts of cool British shows and all it has are reality shows and cooking shows, it seems.)

Would be weird to see an L&O set outside of New York City, though.

I saw the ad in the Metro this morning and it took me a good 30 seconds to recognise Jamie Bamber, he looks so different.

Really? In the YouTube clip, I thought he looked exactly the same.

I won't be watching. I don't care much for British drama; police stuff never really thrills me, and I don't like court/lawyer stuff. Also, Freema Agymeman isn't my favourite actress. It's a shame because I'd be more than happy to watch more of Jamie Bamber.
