Production of Organized Crime is expected to begin next month, assuming there's no pandemic stopping them.
The show returns on German TV - the new season, every Friday - primetime. What can I expect from season 21?
Any news on the supporting cast? Also, is it true that... Spoiler: OC Stabler's wife Kathy has been murdered, and this is the reason he returns to the NYPD? @Morticia Addams: Season 21 is pretty good. I think the boxing episode is my favorite. Plus there's a story arc (clearly ripped from the Jeffrey Epstein headlines) about a NYPD cop who goes after the predator who's grooming the cop's daughters. And in the first episode of the season Ian McShane plays a sleazy film director who's also a predator. A few of the S21 eps center on him and his conviction & trial.
Actually, writer-showrunner Matt Olmstead just stepped down and they have no replacement, so that will delay things. Also, every Dick Wolf show has a production start date except Organized Crime and that was before Olmstead even left. There is no news about cast or plot specifics other than that Stabler has suffered "a devastating personal loss" and returns to work. Of course, that could go out the window with the next showrunner.
I don't think they could get Ian McShane back when they started filming again. Leight said that they wouldn't pick back up on the cliffhanger yet.
I haven't watched SVU in years, but whoever Demore Barnes (The Unit, 12 Monkeys, Supernatural) is playing, he's been promoted to series regular.
I liked him, but with the screen time they give to Benson, the other supporting characters are already shortchanged. His promotion is splitting that pie further.
He is the deputy police chief. He had plenty of screen time last year and I really like his character.
Not the entire department, just SVU. And, AFAIK, Garland is deputy chief of SVU citywide - meaning, from all five boroughs, not just the Manhattan one we see on the show.
That would make sense as the RW head of the Special Victims Division of the NYPD Detective Bureau is a one-star sworn chief (currently Caroline Roe). The "deputy police chief" in the sense that most people think of it would be First Deputy Commissioner, a non-sworn administrative officer and second-in-command to the Commissioner.
^ Yeah, that guy was a train wreck from the get-go. Kind of like the 22nd season premiere, actually...
Just read about the return of.... Spoiler: character returns Rafael Barba. I'm looking forwart to it.
^ Yeah, it was a good episode. Not sure how I feel about Barba as a defense attorney, but we'll see where this goes... And: Spoiler Fin's engaged!
Barba already had a cameo. Let's just hope they don't kill off another recurring character. Kat is a refreshing new character, I even tolerated Amanda. But Amanda's sister is annoying as hell. They are currently showing episodes from 2017 in Germany, by the way.
The most unexpected L&O return? Annabella Sciorra will reprise her one-season CI character on SVU, 15 years later.
Essentially, yes, because Sciorra's lone season was the first one with Noth, in which he and D'Onofrio did twelve episodes each.
