I hated this episode. I thought Robin Williams was too over the top.

Williams' character should go visit his twin brother in Baltimore.

I wonder if Robin improvised all (or any) of his dialogue, like he tends to do a lot.

I enjoyed this episode so much so that I had to give it an excellent rating. It just worked for me on some level but I can't believe Munch couldn't tell that it was the same guy each and every time on the phone. It was pretty obvious - then again we know about Robin Williams' antics so we may have just been prepared for them.

Good episode though.

I just rewatched Homicide's "Bop Gun," about two hours after I watched this episode of SVU. I don't feel that Robert Ellison and Merritt Rook are all that much alike, beyond superficial similarities. They're both emotional, but Ellison is still far more reserved than Rook and willing to believe in a system of justice, whereas Rook had simply lost all faith.

I usually hate Robin Williams in anything and think he overacts all the time, so top marks for this episode weren't likely anyway.

But, the sudden turns from 'happy meal prankster' to easily outwitting Casey, to having his own 'don't be a sheep' website and movement (and this made sexually assaulting a teenage girl acceptable to him, exactly how?), to 'oh, yeah, he killed the doctor', to Olivia buying the whole 'I've got a bomb thing' from a guy who had bluffed everytime anyway, to the torturing Elliot, who also didn't call this jerk's bluff (or shoot him), to the 'surprise' escape, to the fact that THEY DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO LOOK FOR THE SUSPECT AND DECIDED TO GO OUT FOR BURGERS (or whatever) INSTEAD OF DOING THEIR DUE DILIGENCE AND SEARCHING, OR AT LEAST CALLING IT IN SO SOMEONE ELSE COULD SEARCH, was pretty lousy story telling in my opinion.

Oh, and I love it when fat middle aged guys in handcuffs outrun superfit ex-marines and physically fit younger women. It's just sooooo real. (If there wasn't sarcasm dripping off that last sentence, you didn't read it right. ;))

Still, I graded it "mediocre" just because I can't give an SVU a "terrible" grade.

Wow. I thought so much was glossed over and established way too quickly, it sacrificed a lot of grounding. And the "rally" was just really embarrassingly bad.

The structure was fresh, though. And I liked that about it.

But I don't think Williams' character is a substantial enough to be a worthy comeback opponent, though.
