Law & Order: LA Version 1.5 Discussion

Maybe a little odd that he is taken back as a Robbery Homicide Division Detective and not a local homicide or some other divisional detective. But then in New York they had out of state cops come in as Homicide, Major Crimes and Special Victims detectives.

I woruld have to listen again but papa was just cursing Ceaser as a murderer as he was walking free

I suppose so, but it seemed like Morales knew some of the cops there (he was greeting them like old friends when T.J. looked on), so I guess he was just returning to his old precinct. And with Morales' knowledge of open court cases, he'd probably be very valuable in Robbery/Homicide these days.

You know, I've been watching old episodes of SVU simultaneously with newer ones, and there's really no discernable difference.

It's not L&O to me unless it's in NYC...

I like Law & Order: UK well enough, though all its episodes are remakes of episodes of the "flagship" show anyway. At first it was adapting episodes from the early seasons that never get rerun on TV except in the wee hours, so they were new to me, but lately, practically every episode I've seen this season, there's been a moment where it dawned on me that I recognized the story being told.

I think it's that there are just so many rape stories I can deal with. However I never get sick of murders. I loved L&O for years, couldn't stand it, and then it got great again towards the end. SVU is like... "OK... but only for one episode a month. CI was watchable, but only the episodes that didn't have Jabba on it.

(Side note: What was Fernando's father yelling at the end of the episode as Cesar is leaving?)

My guess would be the Spanish word for "assassin."

Or maybe he worked with those cops before as an ADA. Doesn't that make more sense?

Considering that he left the LAPD to become a Deputy DA 12 years before, then yes. Then again Detective Winters was a rookie some 20 years before when the Rodney King Riots hit and rookie cops are not assigned to Robbery Homicide Division, only the best and most experienced detectives.... maybe:rommie:

Morales did thank the lieutenant for pulling strings to get him assigned to that precinct. So I guess you're right.
The Robbery Homicide Division is not LAPD's equivalent of the original L&O's NYPD's 27th Precinct, it is more like the Major Case Squad of Criminal Intent and the Special Victims Unit rolled into one. Although LAPD does have a separate Major Crimes Division which is more of an anti-hate crime and terrorist unit

The South, Central (where "South Central LA" got its name), Valley and West Bureau detectives would be the equivalent of the 27th Precinct detectives. And the one time Division and now Area Stations are what the "precincts" are called. An ex cop on a Southland BBS once told me that the North Hollywood and Wilshire Divisions are the most diverse and able to handle the different plots of TV shows. But Robbery Homicide works all over the city on high profile cases. Hence the use of community names as episode titles.

Agreed, the intro is pretty dumb, and way too slow.

But, hey! Alana De La Garza is continuin' her character from Law & Order. That might make Terrance Howard tolerable as a regular.
The music sounds like they adapted it from the old Secret Service movie To Live And Die In LA

Another awful performance last night: 1.1 rating, 4.9 million viewers. So, about a 20 percent drop from last week. Things are not looking good for the show's future -- even at its absolute worst, Vanilla was still pulling in more than seven million (and that was during its final season, when it got yo-yo'd between Friday and Monday).

Was Rubriosa really what was bringing in the views on Vanilla that will really bring them over to L.A?

I really want to give this a chance, but they could've brought Alfred Molina in to replace Van Buren as the Lieutenant as she was going to be done at the end of that season. Or use Corey Stoll instead of recycling Anthony Anderson.

The worst part is that with the three episodes we've seen since the show was overhauled, it's become really solid. But, as I said earlier, if you're trying out a retooled show and floating it to see if it deserves another season, you don't throw it up against fucking Dancing with the Stars.

Yeah, last night's show was good. I liked the story, Molina is great. NBC, get your act together.

Know what's messed up? Primetime on Demand only has last night's episode available, but not either of last week's episodes.

Watchin' it now, and yeah, Alfred Molina is awesome, which is to be expected.
