Law & Order: LA Version 1.5 Discussion

Anybody catch the Michael Cutter reference in the latest episode? :) (Dekker said that when he was in New York - for the events of that SVU episode where he defended his cousin - he had dinner with Cutter.)

Also, one word of warning: If you have your DVRs set to record only *new* episodes of L&O:LA, you may miss one or both of the eps that are coming next week. Apparently neither of them are unaired Skeet episodes, but my DVR's channel guide is treating them as reruns even though they have never aired. (Monday's episode is 'Big Rock Mesa', Wednesday is 'Angel's Knoll')

To be fair, Logan punched somebody important :p

And he was surrounded by the press when he did it. Remember how on CI, he pulled out a copy of the newspaper story to show his partner?

In real life, of course, Noth had given an interview where he said he was the show's star & there wouldn't be a series without him. So, Dick Wolfe fired him, and the series went on without him.

Maybe some-one should show a details of that Noth's initial departure to Meloni and Hargitay..

BTW, Logan's character also extracted a confession at gunpoint in the first episode of the second season. He was Law and Order's original loose cannon.

That being said, if it wasn't for Jerry Orbach, Noth's departure very well could have killed Law and Order. And the original is a different animal from SVU. If Meloni and Hargitay are gone, the show is done in all but name.

^^ I agree that the subtraction of Meloni and Hargitay will really hurt SVU in the ratings. They have become bigger than the show and in this format where the story is supposed to be able to be told with interchangeable detectives and lawyers, that is not a good thing.

Sure you'd still have Ice-T and Dann Florek (and Richard Belzer if they decided to stop using him like a recurring guest star), but the show would suffer ratings wise.

But how many people have been turn off the show by the two loose canons?

There were 5 episodes. Might be on the inevitable DVD.

Unknown Law & Order: Los Angeles 01x09 Westwood
Unknown Law & Order: Los Angeles 01x10 Carthay Circle
Unknown Law & Order: Los Angeles 01x11 Plummer Park
Unknown Law & Order: Los Angeles 01x12 Granada Hills
Unknown Law & Order: Los Angeles 01x13 El Sereno

Looks like there is also a Van Nuys episode with Skeet. It and Westwood will apparently air, not sure about the others listed above.

Where did you get those titles, BTW?

I get them from www.myepisodes.com. It's where I keep track of everthing I watch. They're usually pretty reliable with titles.

^ Wikipedia and Futoncritic seem to be confirming. They now list Plummer Park, Carthay Circle and El Sereno as upcoming. (No mention of Granada Hills, Westwood or Van Nuys.)

So apparently we have nothing but Skeet episodes left to go. :( :brickwall:

If this show ever makes it to DVD (which, given Universal's abysmally slow rate of L&O home releases that are not Special Victims Unit, I cannot count on), they damn well better put this trainwreck in production order, not airdate order...

The trailer for Monday night's episode showed Skeet! YAY!

Too bad Terrance Howard is goin' to be the D.A.

^

Ya didn't tune in for tonight's all new episode? The bald dude even has his mustache in the promo for Monday's episode...

I'm surprised those episodes are getting aired. Maybe there will be a framing story where they go "remember when..."

Well, pardon the hell out of me for likin' Skeet. :p

Don't get me wrong, I like Alfred Molina, too, but the idea of a guy goin' from cop to d.a. back to cop, and even gettin' the partner of the dead cop he's replacin'...its just a little too much.

And the screen can go all wobbly, too, before the flashback!

lol, I thought I saw Skeet in the promo, had to re-watch it. I noticed Terrance had a goatee thing going on... guess I'd forgotten about that! And TJ had a 'stash? guess that's right too.

These last two episodes were interesting. I feel the writing has sharpened since the overhaul, so it's too bad the show was canceled. I do think they didn't need to do the complete overhaul though. I kind of liked the interaction between the original detectives.

I've started to find the actor more tolerable, but I'm growing to hate his character. Dekker seems far too eager to see people condemned to execution. Last night he was even talking about sending a convict to maximum security where he'd probably be assassinated by mobsters, and he was practically salivating at the prospect. That's just obscene. Even if one accepts the legitimacy of the death penalty (which I don't), willfully arranging for a convict to be placed in a position where his murder is likely is a gross miscarriage of justice, a perversion of the legal and penal system and a betrayal of the duty of care. Even if someone is sentenced to execution, it's only legal and "ethical" if it's done in the way the sentence specifies, by the person legally authorized to do so. If it happens any other way, it's still murder. If Dekker really thinks that way, if he'd intentionally set up a man to be murdered by the mob as a substitute for getting a capital conviction, then he's corrupt and twisted and should be disbarred.
