Law & Order General Discussion Thread

The L&O block is back tonight. Mothership (new), SVU (new), OC (not new if you have Peacock, also edited down).

Anyone watch Toronto on CW?

So, if you watched SVU on NBC, you got one edit of the episode.
If you watched SVU on Peacock, you got a completely different edit of the episode with an alternate ending.

To celebrate the mothership's 25th season, a pop-up diner has appeared in New York from Oct. 3-5 called the Law & Order Dun Dun Diner.

Yep. And even saw someone who said that they saw neither one. It ended with Olivia talking with the new detective. Not with the news about Elliot or the new detective running back to the Chief.

Are we out of order with episodes?

Last week we had Nolan's g/f, the psychiatrist being called a hostile witness etc, this week Sam is wondering who his new love interest is and he says she's a psychiatrist?

Yes, they’ve delayed the second produced episode (“Bend the Knee”) and aired the fourth produced episode (“Hindsight”) second. They then aired the fourth produced episode (“White Lies”) third.

There was something missing in this week’s - no foot chase :).

But then a lot more time was devoted those trial side.

I was expecting some sort of twist and a second trial or something as we’ve seen in the past.

FBI: CIA (working title) is apparently trying to take a page out of the Organized Crime book. Warren Leight (SVU) has stepped down as showrunner. He's actually the second showrunner. So they will be on their third by the time the show actually airs.

I know the script was trying to get us to side with Benson, but the chief is right: she is the Captain, not the detective.

Don't watch SVU anymore, but apparently Ice-T hasn't been in very many episodes because they can't afford both him and Kelli Giddish at the same time.

Could you imagine what the show would look like today if everyone from season 1 was still there collecting season 27 paychecks with all those raises? Would the show have been canceled a long time ago like what happened to Blue Bloods?

Ice-T apparently came out to shoot those rumours down, but the writer's lack of ability to find something for everyone to do has been apparent for years. Since Stabler left, they has been a rotation where one main character doesn't appear in the episode for whatever reason (at a conference etc.)

I like Bruno. I liked Velasco & Muncy. Tamin was a great, well acted character that could have brought another viewpoint to SVU in comparison to Benson. Unfortunately, these characters are short changed and rotated out like cannon fodder. One of the more recent ones, Silva, was there and gone in one season!

If they want to centre the story around Saint Olivia, fine. But don't bring in characters just to leave them on the sidelines.

It's all Dick Wolf shows. After a certain number of seasons, main characters just start disappearing for episodes to keep the budget down. Sometimes they even get the boot, like Dann Florek or Eamonn Walker.

Dann Florek didn't get the boot from the Mothership at least due to money. It was because the first three seasons had an all male cast and NBC threatened cancelation if they didn't add some female characters. Which I understand, but still find a shame because I love the cast from those early seasons.

I have never been an SVU fan, though, so I can't speak to why he eventually left that show.

Found an interesting podcast that did an interview with him recently.

It's sad to see that he had no input into his characters exit. They wouldn't let him have a word in.

He seems like a decent enough person and it sucks that he was treated so badly (by SVU).

And then they
killed him off offscreen.

It was just cheap and a slap in the face. Shortest wake ever too. Around a minute or less per original character from 1.0. DW is such a cheapskate. There's been a pattern with older characters there sometimes, only having them on for around a minute or so.
