Law & Order General Discussion Thread

This week's OC continues to crash and burn. Are we supposed to side with Stabler because even know Wheatley is an asshole, he has it right. Stabler is a cop out of time and during his time on SVU, that was his detriment. He's even worse now. It's like they jerked the wheel in the opposite direction from Benson & her feelings. Wheatley continues to be a giant ass hat and part of it has to do with Dylan McDermott trying to save subpar writing.

I'm confused why we needed to take the detour early in the season with the Albanians, just to go back to Wheatley. And I thought we were going to go to the slimy congressman there for a moment, but that seems to be pushed back to the background.

I love Bell & Slootmaekers, but they keep bending over backwards to make Stabler look better.

I think that thing with Kilbride was just a tease for the Mercy Killers arc which will presumably come after the Sebastian arc ends. (AFAIK, OC will typically have three 8-episode arcs per season.)

Edit: I actually thought the last OC was pretty good. I'm particularly intrigued by how less evil Sebastian seems to be getting. He actually expected to go back to prison! Would be very interested to see how this plays out.

And is it just me, or do they not seem to know how to pronounce Jet's last name? It used to be Sloot-a-makers, now it's Sloat-Mockers.

Oh, and as for the last SVU:

Noah came out to his mother as bi.

Which is fine, as far as it goes, but do kids that young even know what the word "bisexual" even means? That's kind of an adult word for a kid Noah's age, innit?

I mean, if Noah likes girls and boys, hey, then fine. Let him say so. It just felt like the writers were speaking and he wasn't.

^^ Can't wait. The attempt of an on-going storyline in OC has been underwhelming to this point.

Last SVU wasn't half bad. At least Chief McGrath got something almost somewhat vaguely resembling character development.

Curious as to why Carisi was nowhere to be found. Was Peter Scanavino busy doing another show?

And as soon as I saw Chance Kelly's name in the credits, I'm like, HE'S THE PERP! But he wasn't. He was the father of the rape victim, just a dying man hoping to make amends with his son.

Jeffrey Donovan as Det. Frank Cosgrove

That is one of the coolest character names ever. Second only to Lennie Briscoe. :mallory:

No more Richard Wheatley for season 3. Dylan McDermott will be taking over the lead for FBI: Most Wanted next season.

I mean, my girlfriend's elder child said they identify as non-binary when they were ... 9, I think? It's not uncommon.

My nephew mentioned being bisexual at 10 even though he's "not sure yet." Kids are exposed to way more of the world than we think.

They'll know the definition, but it is my opinion that a lot of kids & teenagers lack the maturity to clearly know if that is the path they want to choose in life. I am not saying they should be forced to be heterosexual or heteronormative or whatever the term is. They should still be supported in their choices, but guided.

GOOD thing about Organized Crime:

- I'm actually liking the antagonism between Sebastian and Wheatley. I can't shake the feeling that Sebastian will be key to bringing Wheatley down once and for all.

BAD thing:
- Could it have been any more fucking obvious that Bernadette's kindly neighbor (JAMES CROMWELL!) was a Wheatley plant? I called that shit before we ever saw Wheatley paying him off.

Jennifer Beals coming onboard for the Mercy Killers arc, playing the wife of drug kingpin Preston Webb (Mykelti Williamson).

Not a huge fan of the whole Mercy Killers thing (Kilbride creeps me out more, every time we see him) but as long as it doesn't involve Wheatley in any way, I'm down.

Didn't you know? They're going to pull a Blofeld 2.0 and have Wheatley be responsible for every single criminal that Stabler ever busted in the last 20+ years.

Doesn't Dylan McDermott have a new show coming up? That would tend to limit (or, God willing, totally eliminate) his ability to appear on OC.

The lead actor for FBI: Most Wanted is bailing on the show and Dylan McDermott is taking over toward the end of this season.

They're both Dick Wolf shows, but they are on different networks. However, Dylan McDermott was part of an Ally McBeal/The Practice crossover, and those two shows were on different networks.

Different networks, but the same production company. Same reason Tracy Spiridakos' Hailey Upton from Chicago P.D. was able to do a guest run on FBI; different networks but they're both NBCUniversal productions.

Anyway, it has been said that McDermott taking over the lead on FBI: Most Wanted will preclude Richard Wheatley from showing up again on Organized Crime anytime in the near future, certainly not again this season.

Guess who just signed on with OC....

Denis Leary

Not sure if this will also be in time for the Mercy Killers arc, although this link seemed to imply it would be.
