launching Minecraft on a Mac

My friend has a mac and she bought the game and downloaded it. every time she launches it it goes to minecraft news.

What does she do?

There should be buttons at the lower right for her to login, which will start the game. What she's seeing is the Minecraft Launcher.

Yeah, exactly. The feed for the news is built into the Launcher, and from there you log in to the game.
