Lieutenant Commander

I started watching DS9 about a year ago with relatively low expectations. I never liked the few I saw when it was on but after reading how highly regarded it is on here I thought I'd try

Now I'm starting the last episode. I'm going to miss it a lot

Aww, you denied us a First Time Viewing thread. Those are always enjoyable 'round these here parts.:)

I threw a few postings as I watched but I didn't do an official one no :)

I loved it. Its a cut above the rest. It might be my favorite even. Its hard to say I like it more than TNG but it certainly surprassed it in a lot of ways. The character development. Never does someone come back from the dead miraculously, have time run back, or have it all be a dream sequence

Definitely its greatest strength is its greatest weakness, you need to watch it in order. Its a shame it came out when it did, its very well suited for Netflix viewing. Back in the 90s it would have been more challenging to watch

So what happens to Sisko??!?!!? I just this minute finished the last episode. He's off with the Pah-wraiths? What happens in the books after?

Well I think shows like DSN and B5 with their more arc based story telling came out just a couple of years too early before that type of story telling became more popular.

Welcome aboard the bandwagon, garoo1980!

SO--out of curiosity...what are your thoughts on the lovely Daxes two?

Sisko is with the Prophets, not the Pah-Wraiths.

As far as the books go, I would suggest just reading them. Trying to summarize everything wouldn't really do them justice, they're good.

Unfortunately, due to editorial shake-ups at Pocket Books, the DS9 Relaunch lost a lot of its early momentum a few years ago, and then jumped ahead several years to synchronize with the TNG and VGR relaunch lines. We don't know a lot about those missing years so far.

After going Bajorian Jesus and giving a prophecy of his return, he'll show up in the novels in the form of dream visions and Orb experiences for awhile. Jake goes into the wormhole searching for him but even though he feels his father's presence, he never finds him.

He does make good on returning though when his second child is born. After that he's just on Bajor living with his family. He'll return to DS9 eventually to help out during a crisis once though. Otherwise he just pops up now and again, attending a baseball game on Cestus, and working more in B'hala.

He briefly returns to Starfleet during a crisis, only to resign, return again. He's sorta lost for awhile feeling abandoned by the Prophets. His dad dying while he's away doesn't help matters. He divorces Kassidy to protect her, since trouble always seems drawn to him.

He's really a lot more distant and cold after his return from the Temple, and a lot of the crisises that the Federation goes through compound that. Really his story in the books isn't happy at all.
