Last movie you saw?

I'm not supposed to talk about it. :p

I've been staying with my brother here in Stuttgart for Comic Con weekend, and we watched some movies together (his wife isn't really into watching movies, so he rarely gets to watch with somebody).

Yesterday, we watched One Battle After Another. Enjoyed it a lot. My brother noted that it's not of any particular genre, but I'd say it's primarily a drama with elements of thriller and comedy to it.

And tonight I got my brother to watch Superman for the first time. Unfortunately he was pretty tired from the day, so he dozed off in the third act, but he liked it enough to want to watch it again when he's more rested.

Batman Returns
Iron Man Three

Christmas movies for advent
Batman Returns made the right move of setting its superhero sequel story at Christmas, I feel. The winter snow, night skies and neon holiday lights complimented the Universal Monster-style tone and plot the film was going for tremendously.

Merrily We Roll Along.

And my fears that it would be unfaithful to Sondheim's stage musical (I recently had a dream in which I was watching it, and got through the entire barely-recognizable first scene without hearing a note of Sondheim's music) were completely unfounded. Not only is it completely faithful to the stage version; it goes further than I've ever seen, in terms of exactly duplicating the experience of seeing a musical live on stage. It was absolutely wonderful.

They played the "faceful of iodine" at the end of the opening scene as completely intentional, but avoided serving the audience a scoop of "eye-scream." And they played up Mary's unrequited and totally selfless love for Frank.
