Last movie you saw?

My mom and I saw The Wild Robot in the theater this morning, it was pretty good. Definitely glad we saw it in the theater, it really impressive animation, and a nice story, with a great cast. For those unware it was Lupita Nyong'o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Catherine O'Hara, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, Matt Berry, and Ving Rhames. I had no idea until their characters showed up that Bill Nighy and Matt Berry where in it until their characters showed up, and I thought Rhames sounded familiar but didn't realize who he was until the credits showed his name next to his character.

Red One

It was pretty good. A bit overly long but it's a nice Christmas movie that is geared to more older children and not your usual younger kids. Some good world building which I could see leading to many spin offs from other mythological characters that aren't Christmas related.

Before Dawn (RKO) and The Crime of the Century (Paramount)--(both 1933).
I've been on a Pre-Code mystery/crime film kick lately. Both of these films have Stu Erwin in leading, not supporting roles, and he's not a clueless character for a change, which is refreshing. Warner Oland (Charlie Chan) in the former as villain; plot involves some "psychic" elements which are muted and not over-done. Some nice jabs and silly humor which were greatly appreciated. Jean Hersholt, Wynne Gibson in the latter. The villain in the latter was definitely a surprise, and there's a mid-film "break" of a bit more than a minute to allow the viewer to think about who committed the murders. Nice opening character credits in the latter, as well. Great aesthetic. Both a very pleasant way to spend 60-75 minutes.

Oblivion (2015) via Netflix. A Tom Cruse movie I can't for the life of me remember watching. Plot was somewhat predictable for a sci-fi flick, but the visuals were very good. All in all, a pleasurable way to spend 2 hours. 7.5/10
