Last movie you saw?

Watched two movies today. First, "Age of Innocence", which I saw once before, about twenty years ago, when I found it to be one of the dullest films I'd ever seen to the end. Gave it another chance, and found it quite intriguing. As I had hoped, it was just a case of watching it before I was mature enough to appreciate it. Not a movie for teenage boys.

Then I got to cross another old Sword & Sorcery flick of my list. "Conquest", and I'm not sure if it suffers from bad translation into English, if it was a bad edit, or if it is that way in the original, too, but I found it to be quite incomprehensible. Or maybe I'm not mature enough to appreciate it, yet.

Watched a good chunk of The Empire Strikes Back last night on Disney+. The UHD transfer looked really good, even though it was the 'Special Edition' (garbage) version.

Did 3 movies in a day at the cinema the other day.

Jojo Rabbit - LOVED it.
Little Women - Not my usual kind of movie but not bad.
The Gentleman - Also not my usual kind but I liked that too.

JoJo was great though, I really enjoyed that.

Also finally watched Into The Spiderverse yesterday and that was great too.

Saw Hancock last night, and I have a question:

Does anybody - anybody at all - have the first clue what Jason Bateman's character was doing in that movie? I mean, aside from teaching Hancock not to be such a butt, all he does is walk around showing people that stupid heart picture and saying "Imagine all the people" rhetoric, and every time I watch it I find myself in the heads of those people in the boardroom scene wondering the same thing I've been wondering since I first saw the movie years ago: "YEAH...AND?????"

Am I missing something?

He was trying to make Hancock's public image more positive, or something? Maybe it's addressed more in the extended version.

No, he was fixing Hancock's image as a way to get meetings with businesses to pitch the heart. Hancock was a stepping stone, not the purpose.

This evening I finally got round to watching "Ex Machina"
Very strange, and a couple of obvious twists, but generally good, better than good.

I finally caught up with the world and watched the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, and they were...dumb? I'm really not a judgemental person; I love getting swept up in dumb fun -- heck, my mom and I watched Hot Rod the night before, which was fantastic -- but these were just, I dunno...It felt like they couldn't find their niche: the intentionally stupid crossed over into the just plain stupid a lot, the plots were on child's level, which is fine, but the violence stepped over the line for a kids' movie. Rocket was just annoying, and man, the fight scenes were looooooooong. I did like Nebula, I liked the silliness, and I liked the visuals: the color palette alone was an utter delight. Maybe it's because I didn't see them in the theatre so missed out on the full effect of the visual spectacle?
Good soundtracks tho. And on that tangent, I already had almost every song, but downloaded the soundtracks specifically in hopes of getting the awesome version of Jay and the Americans "Come a Little Bit Closer" (which has been a favorite song since I was a small child), with the fantastic guitar and full choir at the end, only to find out the original version is on the soundtrack and that version is unreleased. Boo.

I'm currently doing a rewatch of the Bond films (I usually do before a new Bond movie comes out just for the fun of it).

I just watched "Diamonds are Forever". Last week I watched "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" which is my favorite Bond film of all time. I always loved Telly Savalas as Blofeld--just the right mix of danger, psychosis and charm, and he was a bit on the physically imposing side adding to the danger a bit.

Oh and last week I watched "Dr Strangelove" for the first time, believe it or not. I always liked Stanley Kubrick films and not sure how I only now just got around to that one. Great satire film though.

Marvel's Avengers: End Game via Disney+. Fun to watch it again after letting some time pass. Spent the bulk of the last half of the movie just looking for little things I'd missed during the first go around (or two).
