Watched a documentary last night called Sour Grapes. Really interesting story about a guy who forged rare bottles of wine and ripped off a bunch of billionaires.

Rudy Kurniawan used to be a client when I was in the wine trade. To this day I still get a few warm fuzzies over the "rare" bottles of wine he sold my bosses. They were unscrupulous, greedy men who I feel no compassion for being had over.

That's fascinating! While we were watching the doc we were talking about how it's kinda hard to sympathize with a lot of the douchey rich guys who got duped.

Reefer Madness, which is definitely a propaganda film. I'm also surprised a film like this was made at all in 1936. Characters are drugged, one commits suicide, and a part of the ending is gray and left open to interpretation.

Not that this is a good film. It's pretty bad, it's poorly paced -- even by 1930s standards -- and the message is as black-and-white as the footage. It tries its best to scare people straight. "Don't smoke pot or you'll become a criminally insane, deranged murderer who'll end up committed to an asylum."

I don't smoke pot, and I'm not exactly a huge fan of it either, but come on. This film took its "moral of the story" to about as much of an extreme as it possibly could. Then again, look at when I'm talking about.

In the theater: Black Panther. A very well-made super-hero flick.
On TV: Get Out. I don't normally like horror films but this one had some very sharp social commentary--was more of a thriller than a horror film. Reminded me a bit of "Stepford Wives," only creepier.

I started to walk down the street when I heard a voice saying: "Good evening, Mr. Dowd". I turned, and there was this big white rabbit leaning against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that, because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

I've wanted to see this for a while and finally got a copy for Christmas that I'm just now watching. Enjoyable but a little strange. I didn't realize the rabbit was actually "real" unless somehow the opening doors are a mass hallucination.

A Wrinkle in Time. Not recommended. I went in with pretty low expectations, and it still somehow managed to disappoint me. I believe it's the sappiest movie I have ever seen. Even my Danielle Steele loving, cries-at-Frosty-the-Snowman sister was rolling her eyes for most of the movie.

Colossal starring Anne Hathaway. Saw it on a list of great films you may have missed in 2017, so ordered myself a copy and really enjoyed it. A great character story with a sci-fi twist.

Also on that list was The Girl With All The Gifts and God's Own Country, both of which I'll be watching in the next day or two.

Wife is out of town so this weekend was 'movie time'. Friday night was Justice League which I found to be pretty enjoyable and better than the reviews painted. Saturday night was Pixar's (Disney) Coco which superseded my expectations. Had all the feels and heart string tugs.... Ended up being a two Kleenex blubbering snot-fest.... Damn you, Pixar, damn you...

A Wrinkle in Time. Not recommended. I went in with pretty low expectations, and it still somehow managed to disappoint me. I believe it's the sappiest movie I have ever seen. Even my Danielle Steele loving, cries-at-Frosty-the-Snowman sister was rolling her eyes for most of the movie.

This movie looks like the most pretentious film since "I heart Huckabee's." I got to say i'm not to interested in seeing it. The last movie I saw was a rerun of "Shawshank Redemption." I tried to make it through "Hercules in New York" and "IN Like FLint" but I just couldn't get into them. Not even in the "so bad you love it" kind of way. I also saw "Office Space" again but this time on blu-ray which I finally got hooked up. The movie is super great and never ages even with the tech stuff that is no longer relevant like floppy disks and computers stuff going wonky in 2000.
