I don't know about everyone else here, but I'm very excited about this set. They're setting up a mailing list to judge consumer interest, so everyone who is interested should write in.

STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES SOUNDTRACK COLLECTION is licensed by CBS Consumer Products and produced in cooperation with GNP Crescendo Records, the longtime home of pioneering classic Star Trek television and film soundtracks. GNP Crescendo’s Neil Norman has allowed for episode scores previously and exclusively released by Crescendo to be newly expanded and remastered for this box set, in order to make the collection as comprehensive as possible.

This release marks the kind of authoritative collection of original Trek series music that fans have desired for decades. “For 45 years, those like me who love this music could only dream about having it all,” remarks album producer Lukas Kendall. “This is themajor, historical piece of sci-fi music, television music and pop culture music that we have always wanted to release in a definitive form for the collector.”

“A majority of the music featured in this set has never been released,” adds Executive Album Producer and La-La Land Records President MV Gerhard. “Of that unreleased music, there is a fairly large percentage that no one has ever heard because it was written and recorded for the show, but never featured in the episodes.” Regarding some of these previously unreleased tracks, Album Music Editor Neil S. Bulk comments, “No original music from season three, apart from the main title, has ever been released. It’s really distinct and definitely Star Trek… It’s what people have always wanted.”

“The original show was very theatrical,” says Trek historian and liner notes writer Jeff Bond. “So the music reflected that. It was huge and very expressive and thematic. And that makes it very exciting to listen to apart from the show.”

The original Trek series scores team with action, adventure and drama, but they are also infused with deep emotion and the greatness of the human spirit. Such characteristics have kept these richly orchestrated tracks vital and relevant decades beyond their original recording. “Trek was always about the human condition,” remarks Co-Executive Album Producer and La-La Land Records VP, Matt Verboys. “And the scores have that in it and I think that’s what has made both the show and its music timeless.”

As I said in the Gen Trek thread -- this is a soundtrack dream come true!

Here's the video promo, written, directed and cut by Brad Hansen, the same guy who cut "The Lion King Rises" and "Wall-E-theus:

Let me emphasize this point.

EVERY

PIECE

OF

MUSIC

RECORDED

FOR

THE

SHOW

I'm honestly surprised that GNP is allowing La-La Land to release music that were previously under their banner, especially after they refused to allow the complete score to "The Best of Both Worlds" to be featured on the Ron Jones Project.

I can't think of an exclamation, emoticon, or meme sufficient to convey how thrilled I am by this. I think it kind of goes without saying. This is the Holy Grail for Trek music fans. This is what I've been wanting for decades. Every single cue from TOS, plus unused cues we've never heard before??? Incredible! And if it has liner notes as good as the previous box sets, so much the better.

The only thing that would make this better is if they had the complete score to the animated series as well.

It sounds like it's about the same size as the Ron Jones set, so the price ought to be comparable, though there could be some difference due to demand or the amount of work that had to go into the restoration or whatever.

If this set is as advertised, I will crack open the IRA for it.

The only quibble I have so far is about that guy saying that no 3rd season music has been released, which is not correct. I believe we have from GNP/Cresendo some "Is There In Truth..." music and a few cuts from "The Paradise Syndrome". And wasn't there some from "The Empath" done too? But those may have been re-orchestrations. The mind grows dim.

Based on those works, which I lapped up like a thirsty dog 20-25 years ago, we are still missing original work from "Who Mourns for Adonais", "Elaan of Troyius", "Spock's Brain", "And The Children...", "Plato's Stepchildren", "Tholian Web", and a few more short cues, not the least of which would be from "City".

Please, make this happen, and make it happen right!

There has been some music that I've wanted. I wanted and have Doomsday Machine. I've wanted the music from Who Mourns for Adonais and Corbomite Manuever.

The tracks from "Corbomite Maneuver" were previously released, and in fact are now on iTunes. Enjoy.

I believe only 12 episodes have had near complete or selected cues released from the original television scores and are non-reorchestrations. These are the following:

SEASON 1
1. THE CAGE

2. WHERE NO MAN HAS GONE BEFORE

3. THE CORBOMITE MANUEVER

4. THE NAKED TIME

5. BALANCE OF TERROR

6. WHAT ARE LITTLE GIRLS MADE OF?

7. THE CONSCIENCE OF THE KING

8. SHORE LEAVE

SEASON 2
9. AMOK TIME

10. THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE

11. THE TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES

I am ecstatic to the nth degree about this comprehensive release. Interesting that the GNP liner notes mentioned a fire or flood which damaged "The Cage" and "WNMHGB" recordings, which resulted in the poor quality (hisses, pops, etc) in that release. Evidently, all these scores were well preserved in a vault with all the others.

If this set is as advertised, I will crack open the IRA for it.

I said that, and it's true. We've had re-recordings of third season music, but never the original recordings. With this set, all of the third season music makes it's debut, including music written but never used!

Wow, just wow! There is no way I am NOT getting this! Here's hoping they can deliver to Germany without problems ...
