Kurtzman lands a deal with CBS

I wonder if this means a kind of "Star Trek Production Assembly Line" is on the horizon. CBS AA needs content so what better franchise than the "Family Jewels" to keep us subscribing year round.

First mission: Get some Trek themed shows rated Y7 built in order to introduce a new generation to the cash cow.

Eh?

Just make sure he dumps Bob Orci.

:( I like new Star Trek, but I'm still saddened that it led to the Kurtzman/Orci split. Those two were writing partners for over twenty years, but now seem forever shattered.

Someone needs to set these two up again.

I am not saying anything bad about Star Trek 09 or Into Darkness. Bob and Alex are bad for showbiz. They have their hands in every cookie jar, which prevents other writers from getting to shine. They tend to start projects get bored and leave. From what I've read about Orci's script for what became Star Trek Beyond we got lucky that he was fired.

I just think both are really bad writers when they collaborate. I haven't really paid attention to whether or not one of them does better alone.

ST09 and STID were successful despite their scripts, not because of them. Just my reasonably humble opinion, though.

They seem to be doing more producing than writing at the moment, which is nice. My initial fear when they split was that they would be able to ruin twice as many projects in the same amount of time, but that hasn't come true so far. Thankfully. :)

I agree...mostly. I do feel like they did do some really good character work (especially in ST09) but their plotting leaves a lot to be desired.

Well sure, I mean getting nominated for a Writer's Guild Award for original script is a common occurrence with Trek movies.

What is in Orci's script?

Well Orci chose two fairly new writers when he was going to do ST 3 and now they are going to do ST 4 so I'm not sure if that holds up.

Must admit, quite enjoy the schadenfreude after Mr. Orci's high and mighty pontificating on the trekmovie comments section. May he avoid most of the people he met on the way up on his way down!
