Kurt Busiek Planning "Batman:Secret Identity"

I never read that Superman story was it any good? Was this the story was touted as the new revamped origin of Superman but it proved so unpopular it was conveniently forgotten or was that Birthright?

No, it was more like a take on Superboy Prime (the original concept, as it was written before Infinite Crisis changed the character), in that a normal kid, on an Earth without heroes, who just happens to be named Clark Kent starts developing Superman's powers. I haven't read it, but I've heard good things.

I really enjoyed Busiek's work on Iron Man and Avengers in the late 90's and Power Company in the early 00's. His 8 part storyline with Geoff Johns for "One Year Later" on Superman was amazing and his first storyline in Superman after that was decent, but then the title went downhill, fast.

@Mr. Light you're thinking of Geoff John's and Gary Frank's "Superman:Secret Origin" which revamps Clark Kent's origins (not Superman's) that is just coming out in hardcover next month. As stated Secret Identity is something entirely different, the story was inspired from Superboy-Prime but not Superboy-Prime as I originally thought. Here is the wikipedia entry for the story. It's really good and I would check it out if you haven't read it yet.

As for Busiek I'm a big "Astro City" fan...at least the original mini-series and the first ongoing series. I've not really read anything past that.
