Krel Mosset (sp?)

GeneHunt

Commander
Red Shirt
Why didnt the doctor just give him a different face? no one would ever know...

I can imagine him saying along the lines of:

"Belanna this is Dr Mark Ee"

And Belanna responding with:

"Mark Ee? now theres a name I can trust!"

And really I know his research was done in questionable methods but whats done is done, why not use it for some good?

I know if I was tortured for medical research and a cure to something was found because of it i'd want it to be used, otherwise it was all for nothing.

Thoughts?

Too late.

Crazy people don't know they're talking crazy.

The Doctor assumed that everyone was as enlightened as he was and any one who disagreed with him was a moron, and he would never be a friend with a moron and all the crew were his friends so no one was a moron or would disagree with him or take offence to his decisions or be offended by the mere presence of just a Cardassian.

The Olympic Torch tradition was invented by Nazi Germany for the 1936 Olympics.

The rings too apparently.

And rockets.

Mothball the space program because Von Braun used to work for assholes.

However the counter argument is that as long as the ends justify the means, any means will seem acceptable on the thin end of the wedge whenever someone in power "needs" a little progress or advancement.

I too didn't understand much about this episode. I understand why the doctor didn't want to change his face at first. Some of the reactions to him was just racist. Then I understand, after finding out Mosset was an image of a potential unethical killer, they would change his face to something different. Also they shouldn't just throw out the research just because of a bad situation from which it came. It doesn't mean it will all the sudden promote evil scientists doing evil things to further research. The Federation and Starfleet could ban further research coming from known unethical scientists. Of course within the Federation, they can just be arrested and/or thrown out of that kind of work. But to throw out information is just a stupid way of supposedly discouraging evil scientists.

His face wasn't the issue.

It was the thousands of murdered Bajorans some of Janeways crew were related to.

besides the Doctor didin't know.

It would have been a completely different sort of episode if he knew he was abusing the research of a inhumane sociopath and decided that saving B'Elanna was worth mudering all those Bajoran children.

Toothless episode.

For my money, this episode would have worked far better on DS9 where it could have been the actual Krell Mosset, not a hologram who is apparently the same as the man, for exactly that reason - everyone treats him like it, even though he is nothing but a representation of the man created by the Voyager's computers. Because no one even suggests that they change the visual representation of the man, it plays as if the hologram is the man.

And, for that matter, why can the computer recreate a hologram with his knowledge and ability but the Doctor is unable to access it himself? That never made sense to me.

I always thought that was strange, too. "If you tell me how it looks, I can recreate it." Except...he's a hologram. All that he knows is already in the ship's computer. :cardie:

I think the Doctor didn't really recognize that people would be so uncomfortable with having Moset around. It started off with just the need to have information in an intense situation, and the thought of changing appearance was just dismissed. I wonder if changing the appearance later on would have made much of a difference if the Doctor was still using Moset's research. It seemed kinda strange to me that everyone was getting up in arms about the hologram's appearance (B'elanna's protestation of "I won't be treated by a Cardassian" when she sees him, without knowing who he is), and the ethics of his methods just comes in later, when the Bajoran that's restoring Moset's program flips his wig at seeing him.

Do you think the doctor talked to Neelix about how sexy Vidiian women are? How supple and soft their bodies are? The little sigh his Vidiian girlfriend made as he entered her with his additional programming...

What with them harvesting a Lung out of him and all?

Cardassia and the Federation were allies.

He had no reason to believe there would be problems with the information he had at hand. Unfortunately there was some fricking crucial information which he did not have at hand.
