KRAD at IDW

Trekweb have an interview with IDW's Trek editor Andrew Steven Harris, where amongst other things he revealed (the almighty) KRAD will be doing an issue (or more?) or a second Alien Spotlight series. Woo! He didn’t specify the species but said KRAD fans could probably guess - could this be the first Gorkon comic?

He also talked about the potential of a collaborative project between IDW and Pocket at some point in the future.

Yeah, but who reads KRAD's stuff?

Alas no one, as all the KRAD books are at the very end of the oh so long list of things you need to read before Articles of the federation *ducks*

I find that interview extremely interesting! Yes, a Gorkon comic would be a great idea but I am looking forward to anything Star Trek KRAD writes.

I was hoping that the interview would clear up something that confuses me: I read that in order to mark the launch of SECOND STAGE with New Frontier #1, IDW will debut its new Quad Cover format, with four separate covers bound directly onto the same issue. My comic book dealer where I have my subscriptions has just asked me what I want to do in future, if I still want all variant covers for each number.

My logic was that with the quad cover introduction that there is one comic for each story. Instead of “having” to buy multiple copies in order to get all variants, there is just one with all four covers included.

I am able to afford four regular comics (one a week) plus maybe the odd incentive cover issue, if they will still be offered extra. But if the old pattern of multiple regular covers for the same issue on individual comics is still around in Second Stage, I will have to ask my subscription service just to choose one cover each. There is no way I can afford 4 times 4 Star Trek comics a month!

Does anybody know and explain, please? Then I can also give that information to my subscription service.

I don't want to say anymore than Andrew did, but I will say that it isn't a Gorkon comic book as such.

Sounds like a good year for Trek. We've got more DS9R, more Mirror Universe, Myriad Universes, a new NF comic miniseries, DC Fontana's Y4 mini, a KRAD Aline Spotlight comic (or is that next coming next year?) and the new movie. It's enought to make my head explode from excitment

^ I believe that Alien Spotlight version 2.0 is scheduled for the fall of this year. But don't quote me on that....

Well New Frontier's last issue will be in August, and then D.C. Fontana's last in September, and then both Assignment Earth and Mirror Images finish in October, so there are certainly plenty of slots open to fill then.

Quad Format is a newly trademarked concept, so maybe it's a double-sided cover that can be stapled on in two different ways, front/inside-front/inside-back/back, giving the illusion of two different coverered issues, sitting side by side on the shelves?

You may need only one configuration, since each issue will have all four pieces of cover art.

Maybe there are no incentive covers as well, or maybe only a small fraction of covers get the reversed treatment? (Just speculating idly until the editor comes along...) ;)

Whatever this is, I hope it has the Palais de la Concorde in it. I've always wondered just what the Federation Capitol would look like...!

I don't usually read comics, but if KRAD manages to get Nanietta Bacco et al into I will seriously consider it.

An Articles of the Federation comic? hmmm....

I can safely say that we won't see the Palais in the Alien Spotlight issue I'm doing.

I thought this was the best part:

"Deep Space Nine is another request like that - easily the most requested series, though right now it doesn't seem likely that it would fit into the 2008 schedule even if we went ahead with it. With Second Stage and the upcoming movie, we're pretty booked up as it is. I will say, however, that it's is my all-time favorite Trek series, and I would give up a year of watching baseball if it meant we could do new stories for DS9. But, as they say, you never know, so keep your eyes peeled".

I don't read comics that much anymore, but a DS9 one (during the series or after What You Leave Behind) could attract me back.

Does anyone know if all the Star Trek issues will be released in trade paperback releases?

I bought the TNG: The Space Between and the TOS: Klingons- Blood Will Tell and I love them! The stories are fantasic and the artwork is awesome. This is some of the best Star Trek comic material I have seen in over ten years. I pre-ordered several other expected releases from last year but I'm curious if this years issues will be given the same treatment and be bound?
