I just watched this movie with a buddy (on Blu-Ray!).

Very, very interesting movie. Not at all what I was expecting. The movie pulled me in early and then didn't let go. It got... "odd" near the end but I think it was a pretty good movie.

Though, in hindsight, much of it doesn't make sense. Because I don't see what use the numbers played sense it seemed the aliens planed to kidnap the "chosen" ones and take them to the ship anyway and the kidnapped kids, near as we can tell, were never told about the numbers or what they meant. Also impressive the aliens were "transmitting" the numbers using earth-based coordinates system. ;)

Someone else started a topic a few weeks back too. Very very odd movie, I still don't know what to think about it.

However I think the less i think about it the more I think I'll like it... I think.... ;)

I have to mention BSG as well. Ugh, what a HUGE let down. On topic though, Knowing wasn't that great. I mean why didn't the aliens just warn everyone or try to evacuate? I hate bougie aliens.

I agree, what is the point of driving little children insane with that kid of knowledge. what is the point if your only going to take a select few. You really don't have to prove anything to children for them to believe. I didn't get it

This is in the wrong forum.

Moving to Sci-Fi & Fantasy/Bullshit.

This film was fucking awful. I went to see it because it was an Alex Proyas film and I love the look and feel of his films so far, Dark City being one of my favourite Sci-fi movies.

This film was way off the mark, Cage's performance was terrible, the big emotional scene at the end was a major eye roller, it was painfully obvious what the "mysterious" aliens were up to from the moment they first appeared. The dialogue was mostly laughable, the only good thing about it were a couple of the disaster scenes which were very well done indeed.

I don't think Proyas can do real people or real world very well, his previous characters have been cardboard cutouts placed into total fantasy situations so amazing and bizarre that the pure visual gusto of Proyas' direction has carried them right through the film. Here they tried to make a believeable character, a loving father placed into an outrageous situation but in the world we all know and nothing came off right. His reactions to the whole situation were toally unbelievable as were his relationships with those around him.

I hated it for the most part, and hope Proyas goes back to making incredible tales about strange places.

The ending was very "un Christian" The Bible is clear on the end times. No aliens/angels are going to come in with spaceships and take kids away. The sun aint going to burn all life off this planet. Jesus will come back and take all Christians away during the rapture and those left behind will suffer for 7 years until Christ returns again to set up His Kingdom on the planet.

I thought it was a really cool movie, and you don't really have to interpret the ending as "Christian." The use of Beethoven's 7th symphony was exceptional, too. I plan to pick up the DVD when I get the chance.

I believe it was either October 19 or October 29, 2009.

The ending was a blatant metaphor for the Adam & Eve myth.
