Re: Knight Rider 1x11 "Day Turns into Knight" - Discussion and Spoiler
I thought this was actually fairly good, with some effective drama and character work. The plot may have been driven by executive meddling, but it's added some emotional depth to the show. Having Carrie injured severely enough to have to give up field work is an unusual way of writing out a character -- and an unusually realistic plot development for an action show, where heroes can generally have a complete recovery from every injury by the next episode and suffer no cumulative deterioration from all their fights and injuries and brushes with death. And learning the backstory of how she became an agent and how much it meant to her -- especially when delivered by the likes of Richard Roundtree -- made it all the more poignant to see her reaction when she was told it was all over.
Unfortunately, Charles Graiman's demise wasn't as dramatically handled, and was kind of anticlimactic -- although I'm hoping the fact that we didn't see him die is a deliberate back door to leave room for his return. Not to mention the return of Gus the pilot. This guy we'd never seen before was the coolest character in the whole dang series so far.
But the final scene was very effectively handled. KITT's line -- "Sarah, our father is dead" -- hit me pretty hard, because it was so unexpected.
Actually, given how much time was spent last week establishing Hank the robotic arm and "his" relationship with Charles, when I saw Hank on the plane I was kind of expecting that Charles would sacrifice himself to save Hank or something. I guess that would've been a little hokey.
Is it possible for a cargo plane to stay airborne at only 130-odd MPH, let alone climb to over 50,000 feet at that velocity?
And why did KITT need to switch to Arizona license plates when he touched down in Phoenix? Since when was there a problem with a car having out-of-state plates?
