There were tons of moments where KITT drove himself on the old show. Most of them were really brief, like KITT driving up to meet Michael at an entrance or coming to the rescue (hence the famous "KITT, I need you" line), but they were still cool as hell. I never got tired of that little dashboard startup sequence we saw in nearly every episode.

I forgot, we did see the new KITT driving himself at the start of the premiere, although somehow it wasn't nearly as magical. Not sure if it was the car, or the fact the novelty has just worn off...

I liked that startup sequence too first the dashboard, then various other things like "fuel pressure* and the later seasons like the light up foot peddle and an automatic never looked so good shifting to "D" lol

It's probably fair to point out that since KITT didn't have a standard engine he probably didn't have a stadard transmission either. He probably had something akin to what we today call a "CVT" or continuously variable transmission.

My money is on a double-clutch transmission (such as VW's DSG). ;)

So far I think that Viper was a little more interesting. I might keep watching Knight Rider for the eye candy but I'm really not expecting it to get much better.
Viper had a great intro and the car's morphing sequence looked better, at least in the first season before it went into syndication on a lower budget.

Viper Intro (Season 1)

I LOVED Viper when it first aired. I never saw it again after it went to syndication though (it aired at like 2:00am and I was still in elementary school).

Is there anyone Mike Traceur didn't run into in his past life? This guy is the Kevin Bacon of the special forces community apparently. Is every single episode going to feature someone from his past? Why don't they just make the President a secret agent and not change his face if they're looking for someone less conspicuous?

For that matter, can we organize some counseling and job opportunities seminars for our ex-special forces soldiers and intelligence agents, because it seems like their only moneymaking prospects after leaving the service are illegal street racing and terrorism or crime-for-hire.

Oh yeah! Viper was awesome! And I have a weakness for Dorian Harewood. Which means after the first season, I wasn't all that interested anymore. ;)

Real World: We do, to an extent. My brother is ex military special forces (he's since gone back in as a grunt) and they had promised him all kinds of things and had him take part in several seminars about careers and he had to see counselors for several months after leaving the service. Though when those seminars are up they just pretty much dropped him and never helped again. There are also some HR people who let their personal opinions influence their hiring decisions (I know that from personal experience where I worked in the HR department of a local hospital). The head of HR (a former MD) dismissed the best candidate for a position as a general surgeon because she had been in the military and stationed in Iraq.

Thank you for that depressing story. It greatly enhances the obvious in-universe joke I was making at the expense of the writing staff of the show. :p

Have we checked KITT's bumper closely? I could swear I saw a Obama bumper sticker when in regular mode, but then a Mcain sticker in redneck, pickup mode.

Then a Bill Clinton sticker each time a half naked women shows up.

Now that would be a great way to show KITT's smart ass side.

Apparently Barack didn't notice, since he's forcing NBC to prempt the next episode. You know, screwing up my viewing habits isn't a good way to secure my vote.

That's f'ing horrible. Is/was the HR head a Berkley type hippie? What's his/her beef with the military?

Wait. Is this a KR example. I missed episode 1.3, or a real world escapade.
If its real world that guy has a clearly winnable lawsuit that could be filed.

^ This was real it happened while I was an HR intern at a hospital south of Harrisburg. They didn't end up hiring a replacement until after I had left my internship so I'm not certain if the person they ended up hiring had more experience or not.
