Re: Knight Rider 1x02 "Journey to the End of the Knight" - Discuss/Spo

I have to agree that the new Knight Rider is "intended for people without brain."

That is what makes it fantastic. It is not making excuses that it is targeting the 13-16 year old, "Grand Theft Auto IV" playing males. Bring on more and more bikini and underwear scenes, fast exploding cars, and guns, guns guns!!!! While I am no longer a 13-16 yr old boy, I need to go there sometimes so forget how fraked up the world can be. Thank you KITT!!

Do you think I take that show too seriously? :( Of course I have my share of laughs here and there but I still think it is badly written.

Correct as usual, King Friday.

Looks like KR's numbers grew from last week.

Pilot: Good
1.2: Average

I watched this and thought "How many car cliches do we have left to go?". This episode burned the "fast&furious" drag racing as a front scenario. I was neither engaged nor bored but when neither is achieved as a viewer I think "What could I have liked if I wasn't watching this the past hour?"

I'm not giving up on it. Like all new shows it has 6-8 episodes before I call in my personal jury for judgement.

I agree with another post I saw "The tech team" seems like overkill. Its way more than the original had going on with the no name crew of the original traveling tractor trailer. They have a large enough cast for an ensemble piece like LOST or HEROES but they seem thus far to be quite 2dimensional and set up for cliche scenarios you can already see coming.

I like some mindless entertainment from time to time but not week in week out. Probably why I hate reality shows. Anyway this show has another 5-6 epsiodes to totally win me over.

The KITT Cave being only an hour or two, max, from any location in the universe is stretching my believability a little too far, too. I guess the logic is why bother with a cargo plane (which I really liked) when a cut scene to some warehouse is even easier to pull off?

Agreed. I'm watching this and looking at it on the level of a classic 80's action show, not some dark drama piece like BSG. The news is depressing enough nowadays. Having some light, popcorn fun is welcome!

Re: Knight Rider 1x02 "Journey to the End of the Knight" - Discuss/Spo

The transitions back and forth between actual driving scenes and "actors in a stationary car in front of a screen" is obvious and jarring. Hard to believe they can't do better than that in 2008.

Re: Knight Rider 1x02 "Journey to the End of the Knight" - Discuss/Spo

Something I was thinking about earlier:

Why didn't KITTs nanotech protect him when he landed? I understand that it was a risk to structural integrity to change in mid air, but we've seen in the mini that even things previously damaged (the window in the movie for example) are immediately repaired.

Re: Knight Rider 1x02 "Journey to the End of the Knight" - Discuss/Spo

What do you mean the original KITT? This KITT was hitting speeds over 300mph while on fire in the very first episode without being in Attack Mode.
It's called a plot contrivance, similar to how a warp speed trip between planets will take as long as the story requires. ;)

You're right, though. That was a criticism of Super Pursuit Mode on the classic show, too; they showed the car hitting speeds above 200 mph without any problem, yet suddenly they needed it to hit those sorts of speeds.

Hell, I'm still trying to figure out why they even NEEDED to transform in mid-air. How was it "blowing his cover" for that family in the SUV to see the Attack Mode? Were they going to report back to the people at the bar or something? I'm sure the family was much more concerned with the fact that a freakin car was flying over their heads than with what it looked like from underneath. lol

You guys are thinking way more than the intended audience for this show:lol:

It wasn't the SUV they were worried about, it was the race fans.

It wasn't the SUV they were worried about, it was the race fans.

In that case there's no reason they couldn't have waited to transform til after they landed. If they were close enough for the fans to see Attack Mode, then surely they'd be close enough to see the Turbo Boost.

Well, if the transformation sequence started after the landing, then it still would have been going on when it crossed the finish line.

Re: Knight Rider 1x02 "Journey to the End of the Knight" - Discuss/Spo

Still doesn't answer why a)they needed to transform in the first place or b)why transforming infront of the other racer made any more sense.

Re: Knight Rider 1x02 "Journey to the End of the Knight" - Discuss/Spo

Or why KITT can hit 300+mph and withstand a missile attack and uber-napalm in his normal mode in one episode, but get his ass kicked by some nitrous oxide and a mildly rough landing in the very next one without being in Attack Mode.

The mind boggles.

Re: Knight Rider 1x02 "Journey to the End of the Knight" - Discuss/Spo

Because at least a little basic consistency is always nice? When they're all but rewriting the show every episode, it kind of detracts from it.

Even the original series was relatively consistant on KITT's abilities.

Re: Knight Rider 1x02 "Journey to the End of the Knight" - Discuss/Spo

The mind boggles.

The mind boggles why one would scrutinize so closely a silly show about tits, ass, a boy, and his talking car.

See, we say we at times want some mindless entertainment but this show is trying to do both so our fan boy brain says:
- is it mindless nonsensical fun
or
- is it going to be deeper than it appears
